One method I do find successful is drugs... that is the catnip variety, You can buy dried catnip leaves from your local petshop. They roll around in it, eat it, may have a funny five minutes then they zonk out. Also try "catnip drops" by "good girl" (Sainsburys) - chocolate with catnip in it have a very quick calming/sleepy effect.
Good luck!
I got Sweepy a catnip fish from Culpeppers and she promptly invited her little friends through the cat flap to show it off!
Every morning we go downstairs to find cat toys all over the place and very wet from lots of licking...and cus she keeps us awake with her snoring we know she's not the culprit.0 -
I wonder if the Felliway diffuser would help the clingy cat? I know nothing, but often see it recommended.
Feliway is very good at calming cats and is worth a try. I have only used it once, when I took my cat to see my then fiance two hours away and it really helped her settle into his house and in the car. Before then she'd maiow all the way there and back but the Feliway sorted that out. She has now learned to travel well and just sits down quietly.
It is most definitely worth trying it.
Also, is there something in her environment that might make her anxious? My cat hates other cats and is always checking to see if they are in our garden. If she does see them then she is terrible for hours, pacing up and down and checking the windows, so maybe there is something that might be bothering her? DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Buttonmoons wrote: »Ok background - She is an indoor cat as I live in a flat, never been outside. She's always been clingy, following me everywhere etc, but since getting fixed, she's been untolerable! I can't even go for a wee, without her crying outside the bathroom door! I understand she obviously loves her mammy, but it really is getting out of hand, she's constantly under foot etc.
Is getting another cat a good option? So she has someone to play with? She's only just over 1year old, so I was thinking about one around the same age as her, and maybe a Tom, as I hear they are more tolerable?
Would 2 cats smell more? I scoop the poopys everyday, the money isn't a problem, Im just concerned about lack of space? It's a 2bed flat, so I guess thats plenty of room?
Any advice welcome :j
more waste does equal more smells obviously. However feeding them dried means alot less waste & obviously smells.0 -
Aww, I love it when they lick you. When my cat is in the mood she will sit and lick your feet.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £19,575.020

Really interested in this thread as i am now on my third re-homed cat. Previous two were from RSPCA,. first one was 9 & died at 15 the second one was 10 & died December '06 at 19! I & OH have always worked full time & long hours & our 'elderly' boys were just so happy to have a warm home & food on time! They even came away in our Caravan with us on holiday! Got another puss last week after being without one for a year - she's a youngster at 5 & settling in well. The only problem I've ever had is choosing as there are so many !!!!!!s out there that would love a good home. As everyone else says - go for it you wont regret it!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Just bought a five month old kitten home, first cat Iv'e owned, never knew that they sleep so much, runs around like crazy first thing , has breakfast etc then a kip, more food then back to sleep she has been zzzzzzzz for about 3 hours at the moment. At least it gives me time to do other things without worring about stepping on her."When the Government borrows, the citizen has to save".

Well there are no other cats around so it wouldn't be that.
I think It's just part of her personality.
Oh's mum grows catnip in her garden, when it's grown you'll find his cat mooching around it somewhere, and also a few strays hiding around. Must be highly addictive! Hehe.0
