New kitten....questions & advice (merged)

I worked in a cattery/kennels & stables & we cleaned trays at least 2x a day! Pet sitters tend to on each visit.0

You all should do what suits you - I do what suits me - I do not assume my way is the best way & neither should anyone else. If I read that it was necessary to clean a litterbox several times a day I wouldn't have bothered to get cats - as my two aged 9 & 8 yrs respectively have happy lives without this `essential service' it is WRONG to say this to someone enquiring about pets needs. It is not wrong, it's your duty to care for them One thing no-one mentioned is what you feed yr cats: wet food produces more waste than dry - I feed mine dry. Cats whether fed dry or wet food will have a s.h.i.t.e each day. You would not poo in a toilet that has unflushed old poo in would you? You would not let a baby sit in a soiled nappy would you? If you love your cats then you should keep their loo clean too.
I say again - no1 else will clean the litterboxes as often so unless you never plan to leave your pets until they die - it is selfish to keep them in this fashion. Catteries or petsitters will not do this. It is selfish to keep a cats litter tray clean?
bigots btw.less of the insults please :rolleyes:0 -
You do not have the right to dictate what others do - get that one thing straight
seemingly everything you say is absolutely fine - but where others disagree with you this is insulting. I will do my utmost to avoid other pet owners (in real life - not cyberspace) in case I run into ones like you - apparently there are a few like you on this site so I will bear this in mind.
I have said SEVERAL TIMES that it is inappropriate to make comparisons with humans & cats & seemingly you do not seem to understand that. Hence my comments about squatting in a box - I am not a cat so if you consider yourself to be in a similar standing then fine - but leave me out of such mad ideas. It doesn't matter how many times you repeat or rephrase it this will not change:
you consider your cat & you to be equal/the same that you make comparisons - I do not & will never contemplate this - I pity those who will not accept what is so clearly explained & what most of humanity see as common sense:
there is a difference between a cat & a human being!0 -
I am shocked.
I thought I would lend some advice on this thread as we have two kittens the same age as the ones owned by the OP.
However, having read the argument that appears to be taking place between two members I think I will keep my thoughts to myself!
I hope the OP has received the information she originally requested.0 -

Ok fine, it's wrong to keep a cats loo clean, i'm sorry and when I meant insulting I meant the bigot thing, there is no need for that.0 -

I apologise, but I love animals and I feel it's wrong to suggest a litter tray doesn't have to be cleaned out daily.0 -

The original statement was that it had to be cleaned out
several times a day
then some people said daily
all still mad dictators the lot of you
like I said I will continue to use the site but steadfastly avoid contact with other pet owners in real life from this day forward as a result of my experiences on here recently - thanks v much0 -
Look it's not fair on the Minky who started this thread so i'll leave it now. There is no need to be aggressive though, you are entitled to treat your cats as you choose and me mine.0

I think everyone has different views on litter trays, and cats will prob get used to whatever their owners do (within reason)
My cats are OK with one litter tray between 3, and they don't seem to mind if there is the odd poo or wee in there when they go. I know for a fact that other cats will cope with really dirty trays before resorting to somewhere else, and yet some cats can't even cope with just a wee in the tray - they are all individuals, and they will let us know if they are narked off!
it seems rita's cats are like mine - they can cope - Kimberly's can't - fair enough!
Please thou, lets stop the arguing - take it to PM pleaseI can't think of anything interesting to write here.........0 -

No they can't, but even if they can, I can't imagine not cleaning it out everyday. It doesn't take long, just a few minutes of your time thats all. The only time I'd have to leave it until the next day is if I were away for the night or weekend but then i'd have to put another tray down to help.0
