  • Thanks Sandra. No signs of sneezing or runny eyes. All well except this problem. Will try your suggestion - thanks again. This is really spoiling our enjoyment of our gorgeous little kitten and we want to do whatever we can to help him.

    Hi

This happened to a friend recently. The food was far too rich for this particular kitten their house stunk, plus she said kitty was not cleaning herself properly. Maybe a change of food - I expect you are using specific kitten stuff, but perhaps there is another that would suit better.

Anyway, once this kitten's food was changed she became much cleaner. Oh another thing she was not into the wood based litter (my older cat is rather disdainful of this too) he prefers Tesco Value!!! They also changed to clumping litter and touch wood all is well.

    HTH.

Pets at Home and the like sell grooming wipes for cats and dogs (as well as top and tail wipes) which might help get him clean and sweet smelling again.

What matters most is how well you walk through the fire
  • Fancy cleaning wipes for cats??? Are you having a laugh?? Are you made of money?

What is wrong with a tissue and a drop of water??

It reminds me of the lady who I saw buying dog poop bags at 99p for 15.
I pointed out to her that it might be better value for her to buy the nappy bags at 79p for 250.

lol....she said "Oh, but they arent doggie bags are they?"

Errr no....they are just bags to pick up poo.....didnt know they needed a special name.

    Tissue and water.........save your money
  • Thanks to all for your replies.:T I think Larmy has got it - re the change of food. What happened was we fed him adult food from the start (didn''t realise there was special kitten food) and he was fine but a little thin. A friend said he was thin because he was having adult food and should have kitten food so we changed. After we changed this problem happened - his bowels were a bit loose and smelly and he didn't clean himself. We've changed his food back and today, for the first time, he seems ok again. I'd prefer him to clean himself rather than me doing it (obviously) but will use j cloths and water (big roll from the £ shop) if I need to.
I feel greatly relieved. Thank you all for the help. No doubt I'll be back!! :D

I don't think they are particularly good value but they may be good to use for a one-off, they might freshen him up better than tissues and water.

I am no I am not made of money, but I must admit that I can spare a pound or two for wipes for a sick kitten if I felt it was useful.

Re nappy sacks versus poo bags, I have tried nappy sacks and they are a lot thinner plastic and more prone to tearing than poo bags, so I think that you get what you pay for in that case, although I do often use nappy sacks if I know there will be a bin nearby.

Hope the OP's little kit gets better soon, the kitten food was probably quite rich compared with adult. Make sure he is not dehydrated if his tum is upset.

But if he is behaving normally and seems well in himself then that's a good sign.

Keep an eye on him though as they can go downhill fast.

Hope he's back to his nice clean self again soon :-)
  • My cat smelt bad when he got worms. It was a kind of strong, fishy like odour. Keep an eye on your cats poop. If it is worms it is easily treatable. My cat had them when I got him, but was clear after a short treatment from the vets.
