Just did a sample shop on mysupermarket.co.uk and for the foodstuffs I do normally get from a supermarket, Ocado came out cheapest of 4 (the others were Sainsbury's at teh most expensive, then Tesco's and Asda) - think I may be shifting my shopping to Waitrose pretty soon.

    There's more! It gets worse!

Couldn't resist the urge to nip in to Ashford Tesco in pursuit of reduced items last night and while hovering at a distance from the girl with the label gun I glanced at the back shelf and the sunflower seeds. Right next to them are the pine nuts...300g pine nuts have gone up from £2.96 to £4.89 since I started this thread.
Now I'm really getting scared. Maybe Tesco are going to add a few quid to all the healthy eating options?

If any one has noticed any other really scary price increases please do post them as a warning.

Still no reply to my email replying to Tesco's email about the harvest. Grrr.

    I don't do Tesco, can't stand the Company :p
Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

Maybe pine nuts and sunflower seeds are mentioned in some recipe or other. Like way back when Delia Smith advocated us all cooking a certain something and the ingredients (previously hard to find) were all over the shops suddenly.

Tesco must think they're going to be able to sell them at that price or maybe they are setting us up for a 50% off sometime in the future.

Is there a Tesco Pricewatch thread somewhere on the board? If there isn't maybe we should start one! Track the ever inflating prices of stuff we all buy regularly.

Got to admit though when I shop I'm usually fed up and just want to get out of there so I don't usually spend a lot of time checking if something has gone up or not because then I'd have to be in there longer.

They rely on customers like you Takoda;):D

Yes, will be interesting to see if they are reduced as a 'sale' item in a few weeks. Pine nut and seed people please let us know!:D

They don't make a great deal of money out of me Andy!Tesco is very much a last resort if I can't get to Sainsburys, Waitrose or M & S. Our local Tesco seems to be full of idiots most of the time and it isn't very often I can bring myself to go in. Between the idiots and the MASSIVE stock trolleys you just can't shop comfortably so I tend to do 'lightning raids' and dash in
for a magazine or a couple of things in a basket then checkout as fast as I can.

It always tickles me when they ask if I'm alright with my packing when I only have 3 items!

Bought some peanut butter in Asda today as the price in Tesco seemed a bit steep, I'm not sure but I was suspicious... Marmite jumped in price from around £3.60 to £4.60 or so recently for a huge size jar. As my savings are getting less interest than inflation ( let alone food inflation) am thinking of buying vast stocks of anything with a 12 month or more use by date before Tesco add 500% or more price increase.

I've really fallen out of love with Tesco. What really winds me up is the way in which they rush you through the checkout. I often shop on my own for 4 adults and try to get the whole week's shop at once. I always go early (8am) to avoid crowds. The checkout assistant usually asks if I want help packing - I don't - then sits there with a face on, when I asked why I was told that they are timed on the checkout and get told off if it takes too long! I have pointed out that someone to take the goods out of the trolley so I can pack would be helpful but they always say there are no extra staff available, I can't win. Grr

That bugs me too. You're a paying customer so they shouldn't be trying to rush you and get your money off of you as quickly as possible.
  • I take my time and feel no reason not to ask the ctill oeprator to slow down. Whilst I do go as quickly as I can, I do not let queues behind me bother me. I have experienced a couple of occasions where checkout staff have flung my shopping through and in one case damaged an item.

It has never hapened again since my loud admonishment of that person in front of one of the supervisors. There is simply no need for checkout staff to rush people through.
