I've really fallen out of love with Tesco. What really winds me up is the way in which they rush you through the checkout. I often shop on my own for 4 adults and try to get the whole week's shop at once. I always go early (8am) to avoid crowds. The checkout assistant usually asks if I want help packing - I don't - then sits there with a face on, when I asked why I was told that they are timed on the checkout and get told off if it takes too long! I have pointed out that someone to take the goods out of the trolley so I can pack would be helpful but they always say there are no extra staff available, I can't win. Grr

Fair enough daveboy if that's what you want to do, but I should explain something.

First, when threads get hijacked, people have two choices. Ignore the hijacker or confront them. I have chosen confront at times and perhaps that's wrong. I would rather people who start that kind of nonsense stopped. The rare thing that happened on this thread was that I started it, because like many other people I am heartily sick of the rude and unhelpful attitude that a small minority of people bring to discussions that people start in good faith hoping for help from fellow members.

Second, if you want to know how easy it is to veer off-topic when others pull the topic off-course, look at yourself. You're doing it! In fact, you had your own little off-topic ding-dong with d.edna about an hour ago. What have you posted in this thread that is to do with Tesco 'racketeering'? At least my mickey-take of d.edna early on, which you instantly criticised, was on-topic. I'm not criticising you, simply pointing out that you have to be careful if you're going to be judgmental.

Finally, take a look through my threads. I think you'll find that I use intelligent argument to make my points and I don't resort to personal slights. Even my first post on here, though personal, was so in what many thought was an accurate way, it wasn't like I just called someone a name or made empty accusations or slurs without any reason.

I have no allegiance to either Edna or Uganda, but from my observations I’ve never at any stage witnessed Uganda being either abusive or offensive, if I’m wrong, please quote the post you wish to refer to.

I really dont think posts should be about who is winning who in an argument personally, two wrongs don't make a right, and in feeding the fire, your only encouraging it, theres no reason to inadvertently lower yourself to Troll standard, don't you see that in doing this you are letting the Trolls win.

A Troll will only EVER dissappear, when ignored completely, its fair to reply to an OP, even to defend a poster under attack, but in blatant attack, all it does is belittle your good self, and as said, it not only guarantees a troll will "hang around", it will do nothing but render the original thread, a mass of soup for the OP.

I'm not picking sides out of battles, that's a Trolls job, it would be best in both Uganda and Edna that they ignore one another. Enabling your intelligent use of your arguments to make your points, much more beneficial to the thread, and the original poster, who merely wants advice on a particular problem.

Uganda your a good poster, but use it constructively, don't waste it on Trolls, please just blank them out, you'll find it will make you more respectable in the threads, something NO troll will ever achieve. Let the Trolls fail themselves.

I was probably a bit offensive in post 6, to be fair, but it was an open goal and I couldn't resist. And it was most out of character! Lots of people found it entertaining anyway, as they recognised the truth in the joke.

But no, abusive I've never been. But I think the problem is taking the thread off-topic, something me and the other one certainly did, but this has been compounded by the people complaining about it being just as off-topic as we were. And now us! You see how these problems escalate? A veritable Catch-22.

To be fair Uganda, its not about entertainment, I will be the first to back you up and say your posts aren't abusive and you will prove a great asset to MSE over time, dont spoil that title by lowering your standards to a Troll fight, they're really not worth it, it just feeds them, and weakens your own respectability.

Yes its turning this thread into a "catch22", totally "off" topic, but this is a Trolls main aim, so all it is effectively doing, is giving them a reason to carry on.

I know you mean well, and I can see what your attempting to do, its just not the ideal solution, as frustrating as it sounds, ignoring them totally is your best form of defence. By all means warn the OP about a Trolls advice, or defend the abuse, Just concentrate on offering your rational justice, to those that need it most. i.e. the OP.
