    And again!
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com
  • I wonder how many people, seeing the same, multiple, posts by BFG, do as I do and not bother to look at all of them, assuming its all twaddle. And in doing so believe there will be no help to be had, move to another site or, worse still, just pay the ppc. I have noticed a reduction in new posts over the last few days, coincidence or less people on the road due to the weather?

No, it's the fact that people are now reading the stickie at the top of the forum or actually being ar5ed to do a search before posting the same old 'I got a PCN in ASDA car park, what should I do?'

Did anyone see the interview with the guy from the BPA on BBC breakfast this morning? it was linked to this article:- BBC News.

Even though the interviewers still called them "fines" occasionally, they did get over the point that these charges are pretty well unenforceable and can be ignored.

The BPA representative did say that some cases had actually gone to the County Court, but he did not say how many, or produce any evidence that these cases had been won by the PPCs
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

    Yes, I've watched the report.

I then e-mailed their complaints dept for calling them fines. Also for talking about improving the so called 'appeals process'.

I included links to pepipoo and this forum so they can bone up on the facts.
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j

The only reason that the BPA guy got an interview was because the BPA hosted a so-called "Parking Summit" back in October, which Sadiq Khan (Transport Minister) attended, and produced a couple of press releases about. The usual suspects were present and all that the RAC, for example, appeared to get energised about was "cowboy-clampers".

We shouldn't underestimate the problem. This isn't a case of a few small operators pushing the envelope this is a market that has expanded massively in just 5 years. Just looking at the access to registered keeper details gives something of an idea of the size of the problem.

In 2004/5 the DVLA received just under 10,000 requests from private parking companies via the electronic link (to use this link companies must be members of the BPA Approved Operator Scheme) out of a total received of 633,000

However, by the end of the year 2008/9, this had risen to a very substantial 740,000 from private parking companies out of a total of 1.48m. Now multiply those figures by the average parking charge the companies impose. I'm sure we'd all like some of that!

This business has become a huge money-spinner and will neither wither on the vine nor be allowed to be pushed out of existence. There is simply far too much money sloshing around in the trough and lots of snouts each trying to get a slice of it.

I saw the BPA interview and am also disgusted that the Govt solution to this is to introduce an appeals procedure! All this does is legitimise the largely illegal charges which are being levied.

Govt should state there are civil remedies for trespass and if the landowner wants compensation they should use them. They frighten people by copying official PCN documentation, threatening debt collectors, CCJs etc etc. The directors of any company doing so so should be arrested for obtaning money by deception - that may have an effect, but of course the prisons are full!
  • This whole scamming business needs sorting. I worry that if the current lot in power try it they will give some sort of legitimacy to scammers and their charges in return for a cut of their income.
