  • I was away on holiday and partner got a ticket for parking wrongly at Sainsburies. When I got a notice 6 weeks later, I sent Martin's template letter etc They have now sent two letters chasing me up and it has got to the debt collector stage with them threatening court action etc

    Should I just pay up or do they not have any rights to make me attend court since I was not driving the car?

    Just ignore. It's a hollow threat. It will never get to court. They can only sue you for the actual loss they suffered. As it was a free car park, no loss was suffered. End of story!

    If you pay up then you may as well send me £50 as well.:p

    But the good news is if you've reached the 'Court Action threat' letters then you are near the end and they'll leave you alone soon. Is it Euro Car Parks (letters from Control Account)? They don't take anyone to Court. Ever.

    Ignore all their rubbish mentioning they 'may' set Bailiffs/a Hitman/a PitBull on you (hint...they won't do anything).

    Happy Christmas, spend your money on something nice for your partner instead. :j
    PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

    Thanks Coupon Mad and Trisontana for your reassurance. I won't be paying this now, was just unsure what my rights were and didn't want to see my car clamped or anything else punative. I love this website, thanks again.

    A private company has no legal right to clamp your car for non payment of "fines".

    Of course not. But many do so unlawfully, anyway [and typically ignore CCJs, so you won't see a penny ever again if you pay up and try to sue later.]

    Solution= angle grinder. ;)
  • i have received a 'parking charge notice' from G24 for parking in meadowhall retail park which I visit often. The notice shows pictures of my car and the pictures of the driver are not at all clear! to add insult to injury the 'notice' threatens that if payment is not received that it will be passed to a debt collection agency. this has frightened me to be honest. what do I do??? i was not aware of any restrictions of parking in a 'free' car park...

    help!!!

    Don't be frightened, just ignore them, they're bullying thugs who prey on innocent people. The law is on your side, don't worry, nothing will come of it!
  • Please look at all the other posts regarding G24 and other ppc's. You will see they all threaten and bluster but the worst they ever do is send ""debt collection"" letters and ""fake solicitors"" letters, nearly all come from the ppc themselves. Look at the other posts and come back later if you're still concerned.

    Do not confuse debt collectors with bailiffs. The former are just private citizens, with no more power than you or I to collect money, enter property, seize goods or blacken your credit record. Just relax,
