thanks for your posts, i have to admit i am a little nervous about this and i have just found out tonight that my partner has also received one. we have never had dealings with this company before and would assume that because they are 'associated' with meadowhall retail park, that it is a valid claim.
what's the worst thing that can happen if i ignore it? please put my mind at ease.0 -

These scammers trade on fear. They make their victims think they have broken the law and face inevitable punishment. Being scared by this pseudo legal nonense is normal, I was worried when I got my first invoice from a parking scammer. Now I really wish one would take me to court so I can give them a bloody nose. Unfortunately that will not happen! Ask Santa for a paper shredder so you can file the demands in the right place.Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!0

I parked in a station car park yesterday and went to pay at the not entirely obvious pay station. There was no help at the pay station - only the fees required and that was it. (I am not a stupid person, but I wasn't sure on the first attempt if I had entered the information correctly, so cancelled the first attempt and restarted). Happy that I I had paid the correct fee, I returned to my vehicle and placed what I thought was my parking ticket on my dashboard. It was a wet, windy and cold morning and I had to contend with my temporarily disabled son and a wheelchair as well as encountering the station and the car park for the first time. I paid by debit card. The tickets were extremely flimsy and I can only assume, somewhere between paying and returning to my vehicle I must have lost the actual parking ticket, but I was unaware of this at the time. What I had got was a receipt showing the date and time of parking and fee paid on a logo'd ticket, which said please display face up in your vehicle. My reading eyesight is not brilliant, but I made out this information and thought nothing more of it and we caught the train.
Upon returning to my vehicle later that evening I found a parking notice (encased in a yellow and black clear envelope with what now appears, from reading other posts, a misleading chequered border around it). The 'fine' is for parking without displaying a valid ticket.
Sorry to waffle, but my question is, how should I respond and are their grounds for appeal? I feel that this ticket has been unfairly issued, as I had paid, and had displayed what I assumed was the correct ticket. In fact, having paid, why would I not have displayed a ticket??
It was late, I was stunned and worried and I didn't know to take photos, so I am not sure about signage etc. However, I will be returning next week to investigate further.
I wonder if anyone has had a similar experience.
Thanks.

Who issued the ticket? Was it issued under the railway by-laws?
If it's a private company, not acting under railway by-laws, then safe to ignore. Waste of time appealing if this is the case, as PPCs don't do appeals, they just want your money.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -
As bargepole says, you can ignore it if the ticket is not issued under railway byelaws.
I understand that you can tell by looking to see where appeals have to be sent to. If it's a private address then it's just a PPC fake fine. If that's the case, just file the fake ticket and any letters they send to the registered keeper (don't tell them who the driver was).
For info on private parking charge notices, you just need to read this info in this sticky, written by Crabman:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...html?t=1363571
If it's a private ticket then please don't be tempted to appeal or reply, or phone them. Give them no money and no info - nothing, nada, zilch.
If it IS issued under Railway byelaws then please start your own thread for advice.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Today I parking in a disabled space in my local Totton retail park. It is a pay and display car park - but if shopping you show a ticket and get 90 minutes free. I got the ticket and popped it on the dash.
I was shopping with my disabled Mother who has a Disabled parking badge, but.....
When we came out there was a ticket on my car - thats when we noticed Mum still had her parking badge in her bag!
The ticket was for not diplaying the disabled badge while in the space - £100, but if we pay in 7 days (not 14 as others have said) ONLY £70.
I looked for 'the man' to show him the badge but he wasnt visible.
When we got home I wrote a letter telling them what had happened and included a copy of Mums badge. It does say it can take 28 days to get a reply and that they wont deal with it in person or on the phone. I did send a copy by E mail too.
Having read the advice on here I now wonder if I should have just ignored this charge. Does anyone have any advice? Or history with this company?0 -

How to Upload & Post Images (PCN/NtO/other paperwork)
1) SCAN the PCN (front and back) together with any other paperwork (200dpi should be fine). Pictures of the parking bay/signs/lines will also help.
2) BLANK out personal details (i.e. PCN serial number, car registration number, any name/address details) using Paint or equivalent image editing program to remove appropriate details.
3) UPLOAD to image hosting site and link from your thread - simply copy and paste the "direct link for layout" link which looks something like this: http://tinypic.com/xxxxxxxxx.jpg.For detailed help with scanning, erasing and uploading, please see this thread:4) MENTION which council issued the PCN/NtO if you're unable to scan paperwork.
How to Upload & Post Images (PCN/NtO/other paperwork)
1) PPC tickets (referred to by some as toilet paper) are NOT fines or fixed penalties, they are invoices based on a presumed contract with the driver.
2) When posting, please don't mention your vehicle make/model or exact location and most importantly do NOT say who was driving. PPC trolls do read these and other forums and may try to use this information against you. Do not post any info that may identify you. It isn't usually necessary to post the 'ticket' from a PPC.
3) PPC charges have been shown to be generally unenforceable in Court, and they hardly ever issue proceedings, despite the threats in their intimidatory letters.
4) Do NOT write to the PPC to 'appeal' the ticket - the appeals process is a complete sham, they just want your money and thus will reject the 'appeal'.
5) If you don't take action on the ticket, the PPC will get the registered keeper's details from the DVLA, for a fee of £2.50. The registered keeper has no liability, since the presumed contract was formed with the driver. And, if you don't tell the PPC who was driving, they don't have a case.
6) Ignore the ticket completely until they've bought your details from the DVLA (costs just £2.50) and write to the registered keeper. Opinions vary on whether to send a template letter in reply or simply ignore all correspondence, however, anecdotal evidence from this forum and Pepipoo indicates that with the 'ignoring everything' option they will give up after a few scary looking letters and false threats of bailiffs/CCJs/credit record entries.

Not sure why you posted this long 'reply' to me. It just repeats everything I've already read. I posted on this discussion thread because I was joining in with the discussion and posting what happened to me just as others have. Thanks for trying though.0
