I know it says ignore, but I've got a blue car...does it still apply to me??

Maybe more TWADDLE but try and remember its fiction!

Maybe a little scenario that ignore! ignore! ignore! may not be suitable for all as you suggest!

Mr A gets an invoice for £25 then £50 if not paid in 14 days, he ignores!
Gets several demands from them, he ignores!
Gets letter from debt collector, he ignores!
Gets letter from solicitor, he ignores!
Gets a County Court claim, now he cant ignore!
He now has to spend time dealing with this!
Now Mr A is a devout man who finds that he did enter into a contract so decides to pay. Cost £50 plus court fees lets say £100
Mr A decides yes I did enter a contract but the contract was unfair so I will defend.
Or Mr A says I will defend the whole claim.
Mr A maybe gets lucky and the PPC withdraw. Then maybe they don't so Mr A goes off to court to defend.
Nice Mr Judge may find in PPC,s favour as remember Mr A will admit he parked! So Mr Judge finds in PPCs favour
Or Mr Judge finds in Mr A favour and tells PPC to sling their hook. [most likely]
Now you would think Mr A is a happy man yet he ain't smiling you see Mr A is self employed. He spent time on this case were he could have been earning, he had a day off work to defend when he could have been earning.
So the £25 parking scam that he decided to ignore has now maybe cost him £500/£600.

Mr A is a principled man and is glad he kicked the PPCs backside, and sleeps well but not as well as he would have paying the £25 and earning £500/£600!

Do you think he may regret ignore! ignore! ignore!

We all know the usual statement is PPCs don't do court but they do, OK the normally get their backside kicked but they do chance it sometimes. Post #2307 Defendants no doubt happy but are they out of pocket?

PS: my approach to these scammers is ignore! ignore! ignore! but I don't think it is one size fits all.

There is an excellent 3-page article about private parking tickets in the "Ingear" section of today's Sunday Times. Its general theme (as expected) is that these tickets are unenforceable and backs this up with advice from several lawyers who specialise in parking law. MSE and Pepipoo also get a mention.

Two highlights of the article is that famous admission made by Patrick Troy in-front of a House of Commons committee that these demands are virtually unenforcible, and a statement by Euro that they have never taken anyone to court because of the legal difficulties they face in pursuing the case.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • Can you print it, not able to get into the times as I won't pay.

But it is suitable for 99.9 of people, out of the 100s of thousands of tickets handed out by PPCs over the years, they have gone to court a small number of times, they have won a handful times, mostly by default because its not defended, the 1 success that they refer to often is the thomas one, the reasons are obvious, they haven't won any others or they would be lauding it all over the place!

The simple fact is that IGNORE is the best policy, if you are 0.1% taken to court you can defend it locally to you, the time it takes to go through the small claims is an hour or so at most, hardly more than taking a lunch break, I am sure self employed people have them!
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

As I said, it's three pages so a bit too large to print.

I totally agree Taffy056. It is the advice I always follow and give. I know your right I was just emphasizing that sometimes people for whatever reason need more reassurance that ignoring is what they should do.

They rarely chance it, when they do they withdraw having only filed the claim in order to be threatening, or in the hope of a default judgement when no defence is entered into. It's also not unknown for fake papers to be issued.

Personally if I was self-employed and earned £500/600 an hour for the time I would have been defending the case, I would be glad I ignored it, did not pay, and made a PPC lose in court sending them the message to never try it on with anyone else in court, because at the end of the day I would be making an honest living, and would not be a greedy scamming !!!!!! running a PPC. Life isn't all about money and how much you can make, I would be happy I lost loads of my own money and deprived a scammer of a small amount of theirs, because that's the right thing to do in this world.

Ignore ignore ignore fits all when it comes to PPC's, end of.
