They rarely chance it, when they do they withdraw having only filed the claim in order to be threatening, or in the hope of a default judgement when no defence is entered into. It's also not unknown for fake papers to be issued.

Personally if I was self-employed and earned £500/600 an hour for the time I would have been defending the case, I would be glad I ignored it, did not pay, and made a PPC lose in court sending them the message to never try it on with anyone else in court, because at the end of the day I would be making an honest living, and would not be a greedy scamming !!!!!! running a PPC. Life isn't all about money and how much you can make, I would be happy I lost loads of my own money and deprived a scammer of a small amount of theirs, because that's the right thing to do in this world.

Ignore ignore ignore fits all when it comes to PPC's, end of.

So would I! I would love my day in court. However this all started because I tried to convince someone who was considering paying a scamvoice, who thought they had a moral obligation, to consider the points I made and then see if he still felt obligated. I don't know what they decided to do as they haven't come back yet.

Maybe I am wrong maybe I should just shout ignore ignore ignore

I think Esmerobbo is getting a very hard press here folks. Essentially,he follows the successful party line of ignore, so he is definately on our side.

He has surmised situations where, given the 'victims' personal circumstances, in his view, there may be a case to dispose of the case to allow normal life to continue.Given the angst these things cause to the vulnerable public, it is not so difficult to see where he is coming from.

However, for me, it is far to big a matter of principle to give in to any low life scammer of whatever persuasion. Just like the Honest John part payment nonsense, as soon as you give an inch to these sort of people, you open the floodgates and encourage them even more.

I have the means to get rid of this irritant very easily, but I would never ever take that route because:
    1. I know I will win,court or no court.
    2. I know they will never ever beat me.
    3. I want to stop them trying it on with other less confident victims.

The trouble with Esmerobbo's line is that by putting that slight bit of doubt in people's minds, you start to encourage those naturally 'iffy and worried' victims, to take the easy way out.

In reality, with a bit of backbone and research here and elsewhere, the best way remains IGNORE.

It's worth noting that not one person found their way to thank Esmer for his original post. So imho, it was an ill founded misjudgment and why some of the subsequent posts have been so antagonistic.More and more people are getting the message, so lets not water it down.

...we as a board seem to be failing [imo].

The commonly agreed remedy for all PPC invoices is 'Ignore, ignore, ignore some more.'

Yet we still have lots of people asking 'What should I do?' or 'Should I really ignore?'.

Each of us responds in different ways to these....

I direct the OP to the excellent sticky by [iirc] crabman.

Others post their own summary version of the said sticky.

    Others say 'Ignore, ignore, ignore'.

Others say 'Don't call it a fine, and ignore'.

Others says 'Use MSE Martin's letters'.

Others say 'Is it reasonable amount, can you read the signs, etc'

Yet despite all this, we still get the same two questions over and over again. Is this because the OP is too stressed/worried/confused to read a few pages?? Is it because the conflicting advice we all give is confusing them?? Is it because they think that their case has got something unique about it that makes it a possibility that they should pay??

What is it about someone giving the same advice to an OP as they could read 5 posts earlier that somehow convinces the OP that this time the advice is correct??

Maybe a 'doubter, now convinced' could tell us what it was that convinced them so we can improve either the sticky or the advice we give?

Maybe we should have a 'party line' that merely repeats the correct mantra??

    Much obliged ptp.
Was looking in the wrong place.
One of the better articles on the subject I have read I must say.
Might even serve to precipitate some defections from HJ's colum in the Telegraph.

A better then usual article they highlighted the BPA's uselessness and self interest. There is still some conflicting advise rather then just saying bin the scamvoice and ignore!

Interesting points Oopsadaisy - when I got my first (and only) PPC invoice, despite being a regular on this board somehow I was convinced that there was something unique about MY case. :o

The way the scammers write their letters is not random - it's calculated and targeted to cause maximum anxiety and distress because they know as well as we do the only way they'll get any income at all is through the victim sending them money under false threats of bailiffs, credit record entries, etc.

Anyone hear about Euro Car Parks comment in the Sunday Times? I tend to stay away from Murdoch empire publications but I understand they said they know they wouldn't win a court case and that's why they've never brought a case to court. :rotfl:

His statement as reported says " admits it has not taken legal action against non paying drivers, and that any future action is likely to be difficult because of the legal uncertainty, as motorists become aware of the situation. It may reduce compliance with tickets"

It also states DVLA gave PPC,s 740.021 electronic and a further estimated 100,000 postal applicaion RK details.

Do not like Murdoch myself but had to have a look!
