I am a nurse working in a hospital where the private company 'excel parking' manages the parking.
I pay for my parking directly from my salary. Unable to find a parking space I paid £2 for a ticket & parked in the public parking area. I wrongly believed that I could park there for the duration of my shift for this one payment. I received a ticket.

I paid the £40 fine but my grandmother who is the cars registered keeper has received a threatening letter stating that I owe a further £60. It appears that I as I paid 9 days after the fine I should have paid £60.

I need advice! As I attempted to pay the original fine & obviously admitted guilt, does it make any difference if I ignore these letters?

Once again, this is not a "fine". From now on do not contact the company and ignore all correspondence from them. You don't owe them a penny. In fact all you owed to them initially was the extra charges for parking those few extra owes, which i image is well under £10.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

So your employer deducts money from your salary specifically for parking, then fails to provide a space? I'd say that was breach of contract. Speak to your union.

Re the parking ticket, take Trisontana's advice and ignore.

Excellent point re the lack of a space.

What do you actually pay for?

If you are in a trade union I would get them involved.

I know...it's ridiculous. I just don't understand how the Trust can justify giving out tickets to their own staff when they've already paid for parking. Just appalling. I'm more concerned about my elderly Gran getting threatening letters. Would you consider writing directly to Excel & threatening them back with a claim of harrassment if the letters keep coming?

I can predict their response: "Your appeal has been unsuccessful. Now pay up within 7 days or we'll come round to your house and put a bat up your nightdress".

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.

As we said, involve your union or if you're not in one, a solicitor who specialises in employment law.
Do not write to Excel. They will take no notice and it will encourage them to increase the threats.

Disgraceful that a public body like an NHS trust endorses a scam in their car park, this is actually a tax on the sick and the staff working at the hospital, I know this will not make it easier, but hospitals in Wales and Scotland are free for patients and staff , its ridiculous that the same can't be done in England!

In regards to the ticket completely ignore the scammers, and tell your granny to pass on any letters to you so you can ignore, don't let these people intimidate you or her. If your employer deducts money out of your wages to pay the ticket, that would be illegal imo, and you should sue them andthe PPC for that money, and the money you have handed over already, I would be inclined to take the NHS trust to court together with the PPC to get your £40 back, you won't lose!
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Quick question, can a person be registered disabled but not have a blue-badge?

I'm only asking this because in the Sainsburys in Badger Farm, Winchester has signs up over the disabled bays saying something along the lines of "These bays are reserved for the use of customers whom are registered disabled, if you are not registered disabled please don't park in then", but then if you look at the Euro Car Parks "Contract" signs it says they will invoice you if you park in a disabled bay without showing a blue-badge. Just another reason to ignore the invoices if they can't even agree on whom is allowed to park in disabled bays.
