There is plenty of legislation to use against the companies - and from my experience all these companies break swathes of statutes every day. It is their way of working.
It is already well documented out there on the web.

True, but simply ignoring them saves you the time and effort of arguing with the idiots.

There is an interesting article from today's Times about the toothless BPA and a company called Parking Control Management :-

Yep you're right - safe to ignore. They'll try to intimidate with threats of court action but will be laughed out if they do. A private company can't charge a penalty under contract law.

    (Welcome to MSE  )

Hi all, I have a question on another thread about these pain in the bum parking "fines" so I wont go into one too much, but am just interested where I could read up on contract law. It just seems crazy to me that you can enter into a contract without knowingly doing it. It's like saying I have a contract in place in my house that if someone sits on my sofa thay owe me a hundred pounds and ill take them to court if they dont pay ????.

    Thanks

You'd have to have made them aware before hand that there was a charge to sit on the couch.

In parking scenarios, there should be signage to advise drivers of the terms and conditions for parking on the land. One of the common areas these PPCs fall down on is the lack or or inadequate signage.

Im wondering if anyone has any advice please. On thursday i got a £100 parking ticket off a private company for parking in front of a council owned football stadium. For the last 2 and a half years i have parked there only to learn that on april 1st that you are now not allowed to park there now.

There are signs on the stadium wall albeit not very big and where i parked my car on thursday the nearest sign was several yards away. There were no yellow lines or grids just black tarmac where there has always been. I feel this has sneakily been put up there to catch out motorists who have always parked in the same spot.

    Many thanks.

    Martin.

Not sure im in the right section but ive just received a parking fine from my local Aldi car park c/o the B.P.A parking eye car park management comp. The charge which is 40 pound then on too 70 pound after a few weeks is for parking for more than one and a half hours...in this case six hours 37 minutes the only problem being that i wasn't actually parked there at all i drove through entering via the exit and leaving through the entrance i did this on two occasions that day mainly due to the roadworks and heavy build up of traffic around the area and i presume the cameras have interpretated this as my entering and leaving times. I can prove that myself and car were elsewhere at the time with numerous witnesses and have been told by a friend that i should not pay as there car parks are privately owned and they would have to take me to court. I phoned the B.P.A and explained and they told me to get in touch with the manager of the store as he is the only one who can do anything about it?? i will be doing this tommorow but thought if anyone has any ideas on this situation it would be very helpful. Thanks

racluz - presumably you have read some of the other threads, and the advice on those? Your case is no different from any of them. Just ignore.

Also, don't be fooled into thinking that the BPA has any interest in your case whatsoever. It's just a trade association, not a regulatory body.

It's not a "fine", it's an invoice which you can just ignore because it's pretty well unenforceable.
