i think the ops problem was that the washer jets were frozen not that they were blocked.
a good idea is to keep a squirty bottle in the car with a screenwash and water mix and just squirt it on the windscreen when stopped at traffic lights or junctions. better than not seeing at all.
The problem is I do motorway driving, I almost had an accident this morning,, unable to see out of the windscreen :o

Acouple of things to think of...(most makes of vehicle)

The washer botle may well have NEVER been cleaned out, so probably has some residue in the bottom, so you'll be pumping this contaminent into the supply lines, when the level is olw. It'll be shaken about, as you go along.

So worth removing (as mentioned earlier) but more often than not, it isn't practical. So a garden hose pushed into it, as far as possible & allowed to rinse, with pressure, will be the next best opotion.

Then refill, with whatever brand of screenwash, you prefer (or specified), using a higher concentration of additive, for winter conditions.

Clean the nozzle jets, (most conventional makes/designs)with a toothbrush, if there is a build up of scale, around them. Use a pin to set the aim, towards the top & centre, of the wiper blades sweep. Pump the fresh fluid through, for a few seconds, to clear the old stuff out.

Clean the screen, with neat screenwash or vinegar & newspaper.

Also clean the wiper blades, with similar & a piece of kitchen towel/loo paper. They will be really black.

Clean the INSIDE screen, too, as this often gets neglected.

    Do the rear screen, too!

Don't mix antifreeze, with the screenwash, or use washing up liquid. Both will damage paintwork & blades.

If the car lives outside, at night, spray deicer over the screen the evening before.

Meths (Methylated Spirits) you can get from B&Q, Homebase, Toolstation, most supermarkets, probably even at an inflated price from Halfords. Don't put antifreeze in; you'll put an opaque film over your windscreen and corrode your paintwork. Just screenwash, meths, and water.

When the dealarship unblocked the jets, they told me they'd cleaned the bottle out, it's just water in there now.

I tried this, and the liquid in the bottle is still freezing when the temp drops overnight

    Less water - more screenwash
  • Yip, my BMW E39 is totally blocked up.
Every time I airline the hoses it only lasts a few days.
    So it's the bottle then.
