Hi peeps :hello:

Anyone have any suggestions for using windscreen wash, the ones sold by retailers have previously blocked the filters, cost me a fortune to have unblocked, I'd rather not go down that road again.

What car for? The VW stuff is synthetic based especially for the fan type jets. We've had hundreds of guys in with blocked jets after putting Halfrauds stuff in there! It's only about £2.50 for a litre.

oh dear, just bought some halfords stuff this morning.
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?
  • put some hot water in there and squirt it out over a 30 min period, its probably full of crap from years of stuff being put in there

if the halfords stuff blocks it up its a poor design

No amount of hot water would help if the jets are blocked on a VW. Only taking them off the motor and blowing them out with an airline helps.

Apparently there was some sort of VAG memo circulated to dealers saying to test the windscreen washer liquid and refuse to do any work under warranty if it has the wrong stuff in.

I presume there's some way of buying the same stuff VAG use cheaper than from the dealers. Perhaps GSF would sell the appropriate stuff cheaper?!

How far does it dilute? :)

Depends on how strong you want it for bug removal etc, but 'normal' driving conditions are 1part s/w to 4 parts water.

  • Never had that problem myself, but its easily avoided simply by removing the bottle (they're usually only a bolt and a clip) and scrubbing it in the sink. The jets are just as easy.

No need to pay someone to do a job which requires only common sense.

It's a Vauxhall Vectra, and yes, it's that stuff from Halfords that created the problem

Opps, I should have made my post more clear, the jets are not blocked now, but as the cold weather is hear, I do a lot of motorway driving, how do I stop the water in the bottle freezing, and prevent the windscreen from becoming smeared?
