Are you telling me that the call to that number was @ a £1.00 per minute...? There was no disclaimer @ the front end of the message, i.e. "You must have the permission of the bill holder etc. etc. blah" And there is nothing of that. . If you are correct then it is another issue for me to address with the small claims court for the astonishingly bad service I received from them for nearly a year!!!!

TBH though even if it has cost that much I'm happier being away from them and now looking forward to a 6.5 Mb conn at my local exchange with another ISP.

    Hi Normanmark,

It still doesn't change things that it's the customer/citizen who is penalized when a company, supposedly regulated, gives out dud migration codes and the customer is made to stump up for what is basically the failure of the regulators.

Well theres not a lot you can do, thats the risk you take when going for a service with broadband & we all know with broadband you get what you pay for.

If it were my choice to leave E7even without a migration code even tho' it provided me with a working one - then what you say would be reasonable (altho' why there is a claim to a competitive marketplace when BT has been given the monopoly on this is another question).

You're not making sense. If you leave without a migration code then all you need is to get the broadband ceased on the line. All that means is that the equipment is removed from the exchange & then your line will be free. This is what my friend did. Then he's placed a new broadband order.

But it is not reasonable when the regulators have failed (seemingly relying on the credit card companies to do everything without OFCOM and trade standards doing much other than shuffling papers around) and the company basically sticks two fingers up at everyone and gives out dud migration codes and no refunds.

Basically you're trying to find someone to take the blame & re-imburse some cash. First point of call is with E7. Not ofcom or anyone else. E7. If i had a problem with a call on my mobile, i wouldnt go to Ofcom first, id go to my service provider. Ofcom are there to ensure no one is being treated unfairly & the telecommunications industry is a level playing field for all.

Now i can understand why you'd be angry, but all you seem to be doing is shouting the name of every regulatory authority under the sun to put the blame on & to get your money back. Take my advice, give Ofcom a call regarding Tags on the line. If you use your noggin for once & searched the key words in that last sentance you'll get progress about getting E7 removed from your line.

I find a lot of the time a lot of the blame gets passed back to BT because its easier to pass the buck & when you realise of the inadaquicies that a lot of these ISP's have & their protocols are all ballsed up. People dont realise.

All companies are overseen by the Department of Trade and Industry. the Office of Fair Trading (which stepped in over unfair credit card charges - by your reasoning the OFT has no responsibility and the individual customers just should have fought with their credit card companies) OFCOM (in the case of these sort of companies), ICSTIS for the calls (and ICSTIS does force firms to reimburse for inappropriate premium rate calls. By your reasoning again customers/citizens should be left to fight with the individual companies involved) etc. The authorities are not giving out charity. We are paying them.

As I have said to you before, I may buy an own brand product at a supermarket and it may be slightly lesser quality than a branded product but it is still fit for its purpose as stipulated by trading standards. If it were not fit for its purpose, then trading standards would have to step in.E7even does not now reach minimum levels, although before November last year it was a very good service.

I am not blaming British Telecom (you seem to have an emotional approach using words like "blame" and "anger" and not one which recognizes why OFCOM, DTI, OFT trading standards etc exist) but the whole set up by public servants which is negligent in leaving the migration code problem not covered. Something which was eminently forseeable.

The telecoms industry has been set up in a certain way by the regulators and they have to protect the consumer/citizen. That is what we pay them for. If they can't do it, then they shouldn't have jobs and we certainly shouldn't have to pay for them. It's not a one to one relationship with e7even. If it were OFCOM, the OFT/Trading Standards, the DTI, Icstis etc would not exist.

It's because of the competition that some firms are cheaper than others. That's what we are told. The airline industry has been opened up to competition and there are "no frills" airlines but nobody assumes, (as by your reasoning they should), that the airline does not have to reach minimum standards and that the planes will not reach their destination and passengers can be thrown out of the airline before landing.

Well, if it was the 0905 number then it is something like £1 a minute (it depends on which telephone provider you use). The 0870 is cheaper but still not cheap. I've paid for the 0800 helpline and there is now a message when I use it that I'm not permitted to use the "standard rate" line [sic] and should phone the 0905 number. Many would say this has all the hallmarks of a scam to try and get people to use the shared profit lines and keep people hanging on as long as possible. If you did use the 0905 number, make a claim with ICSTIS.

    OK,

Been on hold for 69 mins. . Clearly as it is now 5.30 they have shut. I just hope that it wasn't a £ per min. Surely, if it was, then there would be a disclaimer @ the front of the message i.e. "This is £1.00 per min, please get bill payers permission." etc etc?

Better luck 2morrow I guess

if you used the 0870 number I posted - just checked my bill and as I use a carrier (1899) I was charged 7p a minute so not £1.00 premium rate.
not sure what BT 0870 charge is for 0870

Hope this puts your mind at rest E7evenemesis
Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T

If I struggle to get hold of a MAC code from the utterly sh*** E7 does anyone know how much BT charge to remove the marker or whatever they need to do in order for me to change ISP's.

Basically I'm trying to establish if it's even worth ringing e7 when i could just cut to the chase and get BT to do what they need to.

    Islandman,

I migrated to AOL from e7even, first month free and a monthly contract if you supply your own modem.

£14.99 for first 6 months and then £17.99

Supposedly £40 cashback available through quidco, which I unfortunately missed .

I know lots of people dont like AOL but you dont even need to install their software if you have a network router rather than a USB one.

    Anyway

    HTH

I'm pretty sure someone else on this thread has tried that aproach without success. The migration code is what gives BT permission from your ISP to remove the tags.
