  • I'm off again. Might play with my settings later but not sure how to reset the router settings.
The freephone dialup is working but slow as usual.

That's very odd, Just changed PC's to try to change username and found I'm back on again.

  • This reminds me a little too much of the demise of Redhot Ant in 2001.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/connected/main.jhtml?xml=/connected/2001/01/18/ecnred18.xml

Redhot Ant offered unlimited 0800 dialup access for an upfront fee. Once they had a substantial userbase and the influx of new customers dried up they scarpered.

Ironically I was halfway through writing a letter to E7 when the Migration Amnesty emailed arrived, I've never clicked a link so quickly in my life.

Fingers suitably burnt I'll never pay upfront for such a deal again no matter how tempting it looks.

I have just managed to get back on, after 11 days of no service. I requested MAC , so I'll wait and see what happens.

    ATM =
    ENCAPSULATION =
    MRU =
    MTU =
    MSS =
    AUTHENTICATION =
Also is could somebody tell me if the 0800 dial up service is still working?

If so can somebody please send PM me the number ......... i deleted the email by mistake :(

    thanks
    -Tom

Here are some settings for you

the top three are fairly arbritrary and can be adjusted via online tweaks/speedtests

    RWin 33580

    MSS 1460

    MTU 1500

Protocol: PPPoA (sometimes called PPP over ATM)

    VPI: 0

    VCI: 38

    Modulation method: G.DMT

    Encapsulation type: VC MUX

    Authentication: CHAP

Set your IP and DNS to something like *Obtain an IP address automatically*
    and *Enable automatic assigned DNS*

Try your new logon from e7 as well as the old one.
But try them a number of times, because even with the correct one, it doesn't always connect first time (yeah, e7 :))

I had real problems too. Luckily I live near them so went round and banged on the door
Hey Mick, if you live that close, with all this administration nonsense floating around, you'd be doing us all a favour if you popped around sometime to see if any official notices are pinned to their door :)
  • Finally got connected again (username-e7even@bbuk, none of the others would connect) after 2 days of persistantly rebooting my router. Back on but with sub dial-up speeds...

    http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedchart.asp?id=496333aa108c99ad0c2a1678cc0

The 0800 dialup is actually quicker than their broadband service.

I'd be interested to know how many people take up their offer to migrate away, it could prove a costly exercise.

For the future how many new people are likely to sign up to E7 now that their reputation is so tarnished. Anyone doing a search on E7 before signing up are likely to find a high volume of posts from disgruntled customers. As they have already had their money up front from their existing userbase, some of which they are going to be refunding, with no new income I can't see how they can continue.

Am I being pessimistic or unrealistic?
