Yep....
Cashplus take the 4.95 out of your balance so its vital to make sure you have enough ..0 -
Like you I've just received my Cashplus card and I was very confused by the charging plan.
There is lots of information on their website about the fee, which confused me as I thought I'd signed up to a free one like Kalixa.
It turns out that they list a number of paid-for plans on the website but they don't list the free one that I actually signed up for which is called "Freedom"
The Freedom plan is completely free (unless you let the account go dormant for 120 days) (see below)
But they don't seem to publicise this fee version, only the paid for ones. I had to phone up and ask which plan I was on.
Hope that helps
Justin

Im after a prepaid card that will work with google wallet? (paying for play store stuff), paypal, ebay & roku..
I thought the kalixa from the article would do, but looking at its site, its going on about how its good for travel etc
Is there a better card for loading it once, then spending it in multiple small online payments over quite a few months ?
It will only ever be used online for under £50 individual payments.
Can anyone recomend one ?0 -

Look at the fees that are relevant to your needs and compare to other cards.
I don't see how Kalixa is better than Orange or Pockit as it's application fee is higher.
Also, Cashplus Freedom mentioned in the post above yours is worth checking.0 -
I have my ClearCash account linked with Ebay and PayPal.
if you decide on this yourself ensure you are a fully verified cardholder and you have more than £0 on your account before linking to anything...
What streamlines things is the fact i have my own account number and sort code, something that appears rare with general prepaid cards.
Hope this helps... i dont like shouting or come across as promoting but they have literally changed my life after i was financially excluded by others...KNOW THE VALUE OF THINGS, NOT THE PRICE:money:0 -
I have applied for several of these, without success but with huge annoyance.
I take care to check that they advertise themselves as no checks and guaranteed acceptance, but it invariably turns out that this is not true.
I fill in the application on the website, pay using a Paypoint voucher, and it all seems to go smoothly. The email arrives to confirm that my card is on its way.
Then a couple of days later another email arrives saying that they won't send me a card after all unless I send them ID which I do not have. This happens every single time and it is driving me nuts.
It is especially annoying since it never happens until I have completed the entire application process, including payment, so I lose the application fee.
I have a suspicion that this may be happening because I am not on the electoral roll. This is deliberate on my part because I am not prepared to tolerate the invasion of privacy it represents.
However on looking to see what this site had to say on the subject of these cards I discovered a "credit card eligibility checker". I decided to try this just to see what would happen, even though it is not a credit card that I am after. It returned "Unfortunately, we have not been able to find your details at the Credit Bureau." This strikes me as another possible reason why my prepaid card applications get screwed.
It would be very useful if anyone on here can advise on how to avoid this problem. Does anyone know of a prepaid card which genuinely doesn't require checks and will not fail on me after I have paid the application fee?0 -
You can't avoid this as AML regulations went crazy nowadays to prevent anonymous money movements.
"No checks" means just no credit checks. ID checks are unavoidable.
I don't know what "invasion of privacy" you mean, but it's clearly have to be some compromise on your side. Either register or be prepared to send proofs every time you apply for a financial product.0 -
That isn't quite it; a lot of these cards say that they do not require ID for the initial application, but will only require it if you put more than a certain amount of money through the card, usually around £1500/year. The problem is that once I have paid the application fee it turns out that they were not telling the truth.
What I really want to know is does there exist a card which really does work like that and is telling the truth. One which says they don't require ID below a certain limit and really means it.
When I fill in the application form on the website, everything goes smoothly and there is no indication of any problem. The request for ID only happens AFTER I have paid the application fee. Only then do they ask for what they call "official" ID, and I do not have any. Also without this ID they won't refund the application fee either. So I end up losing money with no indication in advance that this is going to happen.
By "invasion of privacy" I am referring to the fact that access to the electoral roll is permitted for purposes other than checking the fairness of elections. Also that as far as I can make out there is no way to take yourself off the thing once you are on it. So there is a permanent record of my name and address which people can access without my personal authorisation.0 -
