    Hi,

Does anyone know of any that you can buy in a shop please ?

The Orange one you pay in the Orange shop but the card is sent to your home address.

    Thank you.
You can be pre-loaded Visa/Mastercards in some supermarkets. Won't be in your name but a solution of sorts.

It doesn't need to be in my name but it does need to be reloadable which these are not.

I am looking for a shop to buy a Cashplus card, but I can't find one. I don't want one sent through the post.

As I found from Martin's article when one of my sons lost his wallet (and his coat, and his doorkeys, and I don't know what else) less than a week before flying to the USA, you need a Travelex card: scroll down to that.
The big boon over the above cards is it's available at Travelex branches, plus Sainsbury's travel money stores, meaning you can get one mega-quick if your holiday is soon, though buy there and you can only then top-up in branches (where you'll be charged that shop's commission) or by bank transfer.
He could only then top it up from his own bank account, ie I couldn't link my account to his card. And it was of course a bit tricky to link his own a/c to the Travelex card when he didn't have a debit card for his current a/c. However, all credit to NatWest who got a new card to him within two days of him reporting the loss, so the day was saved ... with a little help from Mum (and Martin!)

  • Why is it so important to you not to have the card posted?

The Titanium Cashplus pre-paid Mastercard can be bought in any branch of The Money Shop but the card is still posted to you.

There can be multiple reasons for this, and as it's not me I don't know which might apply to the person making this particular enquiry.

In my son's case, I wouldn't have trusted the post to get a card to him between losing his wallet on Saturday and flying to the USA on Wednesday afternoon. Add to that the fact that he lives in a bedsit where the post is just left on a table for anyone to pick up. And add to THAT the fact that they would probably have wanted to send the card to our address, which at the time was the only one where he had any checkable 'footprint', and we're about 200 miles away from him.

I don't see why having a prepayment card posted is much of a risk. It won't be worth anything to anyone until the card is credited.

Money laundering regulations will severely restrict what can be done without identity checks and sending the card by post to the applicant's address seems to be one of the most basic of checks.

I agree that there's not much risk with it being left on a table where everyone can see it until my son gets round to checking whether any of the heap of post is for him, but if you're very short of time and it's not going to be posted to the address where you actually need it, then posting it out isn't the answer.

I agree, and presumably Travelex require photo ID and proof of address before issuing a card, but if you're pushed for time or have some reason not to want it posted, they're a very reasonable option.

  • 02 wallet is closing at the end of March :( does anyone know of a good prepaid debit card free to open/no monthly fees/no credit checks that I could try. thanks
  • Hiya
I've got 5 prepaid cards with small amounts left on them. They were originally sent to me as part of a hotel loyalty rewards scheme with £50 each on them. I've spent the main part of the money ordering things on line rather than in local shops, as the cards are swipe only, not chip and pin.
So now I have 5 cards with a few pence or a pound left on each one, totalling about £7 in all.
Does anyone have any bright ideas on what to do with the remaining credit?
I hoped I could top up my Paypal account with the remaining amounts, but it seems Paypal will only accept payment from a bank account.
If not, I'll see if I can donate it on line to charity.
    Many thanks for any ideas.
