Although the VAT comes down, remember the chancellor said he would increase duty to make it up to the same price.I went to a Shell petrol station on Monday evening. and was charged the OLD VAT rate. The pump price was the same as before, and my receipt clearly said 17.5% VAT.
Isn't that illegal?0 -
So far this week, I've purchased xmas gifts from Argos, Lakeland & Amazon and they have all passed on the VAT reduction.
Have also purchased online from Jo Jo Maman today and they didn't pass on the reduction.
Perhaps it would be useful to have a separate thread of who is not passing on the reduction.
I was thinking of buying a TV from Amazon. It was £550 inc VAT last week. Over the weekend they were offering a code to reduce the VAT to the new rate before it came in.
After the new rate came in, they put the price up, so it's still £550 including VAT. (They were also displaying a message claiming to have reduced the VAT making their goods cheaper, although they appear to have removed that now.)0 -

Same here! Had my eye on a tv from Amazon. Was 289.99 for ages, thought i might wait for the 1st Dec. It came down to 273ish, today I notice it's back at 289.99!!:mad:0 -
On making a purchase at Debenhams I noticed that the VAT cut didn't show up on my receipt. On asking, I was told that the VAT was incorporated into the Christmas Spectacular as they are unable to process the cut in VAT until next week, because their systems cannot do 2 things at the same time. Not so at Dingles (House of Frazer) where I got a discount and surprisingly the VAT was taken off at the till as well. Tempted to take it back and get my money back and go elsewhere.0

B&Q appear to be out to bambozzle people just bought a fireplace for £1199 (displayed price), was £1199 last week. Big sign outside says that displayed prices will be reduced at till. The invoice has the inc vat price at 1199 and the ex vat price at 85% of this.0

But they don't need to??
The new rate is only temporary, not many shops have gone to much trouble except add the discount to the final bill.
I would rather poundland send all those extra 2p profits to a charity than cash in on it.
I just think it should apply to all shops
This really made me chuckle. Poundland have had the same price of a pound for years and years. infact they use it as a selling point.
Not all their goods are vatable as they sell food as well.
sending all those 2p's would probably end up costing more in admin and customers would feel forced to give anyways
poundland didnt increase their price with the 1993 vat increase so I think they are one shop that can be cut a little slack! sheesh.. lol

I went to the Poundland shop and was still charged £1 each for the items I bought. This means a price increase.0

I was wondering about season tickets. I guess they fall under continuous supply. BUT out of goodwill, I know that is a crazy thought for the train companies. I am interested in First Capital Connect specifically. Any info greatly appreciated.0

.......
you'd have paid a pound before the vat change and you pay a pound now.
its poundland for a reason. the clues in the name. its been a pound for 18 years even with tax rises and inflation... I'll be honest i don't really care what they do with the spare tuppence.. they are cheap and im not that tight :rotfl::heart2:Got Married 1st may '10!:heart2:

Hi,
I have paid Magnet VAT at 17.5%, but the kitchen has not yet been delivered.
Looking through the contract there is no mention of VAT. In an earlier quote it says "Quoted prices may be subject to changes in VAT" (perhaps not in the direction they expected) and on the back of the pricing brochure it says that VAT at 17.5% is included.
Do I have any rights to claim back my 2.13%?
