ALTHOUGH- If you are a student and have the card to prove it your discount will increase from 10% to 12.13% , which is deducted from all items where student discount is applicable, including books, magazines and pre-played games (yes, we do trade-ins now!). A little loophole there for students!0 -
Hi,
I have paid Magnet VAT at 17.5%, but the kitchen has not yet been delivered.
Looking through the contract there is no mention of VAT. In an earlier quote it says "Quoted prices may be subject to changes in VAT" (perhaps not in the direction they expected) and on the back of the pricing brochure it says that VAT at 17.5% is included.
Do I have any rights to claim back my 2.13%?
No, you have paid already and your contract has been formed before 1st December whether or not it has been delivered. You could cancel the order and then re-order at the new rate though but you might get charged a cancellation fee.0 -
I bought some things from TESCO earlier this week (sandwiches, milk, fruit) and I don't think they were any cheaper than last week. No deduction on the receipt either. Massive poster outside advertising the VAT reduction in store. . Seems misleading to say the least, as this represents a price increase.
Hi, basic food items such as bread, milk, fruit and veg are 0% VAT rated.Rather than luxury items such as sweets, chocolate biscuits, alcohol, soft drinks, crisps etc etc which did have 17.5% VAT and would now be dropped to 15%. Hope this helps.0 -
Have been to Asda today and they are taking off 2.13% off at the till, on relevant products, not zero-rated foods.0

OfficialIKEA wrote: »Hi everyone,
My name is Lewis and I work at IKEA. We cut the VAT rate to 15% on all products from Monday the 1st of December.
As a gesture of goodwill, for any purchases made since the VAT announcement on Monday 24th November 2008, IKEA will refund the VAT difference in the form of a gift card.
For purchases made in store - you need to present your receipt to the customer returns department in-store on your next visit to receive your gift card.
This gesture of goodwill also applies to goods purchased from our Shop Online service. You can make your request for a gift card refund by contacting your local store's customer services team - the telephone numbers for which can be found in the IKEA catalogue or on www.ikea.co.uk
Our standard returns policy and terms and conditions apply should you wish to return products they have purchased to IKEA. This means that unused items in their original packaging can be returned within 90 days with your till receipt for a full refund.
Thanks!
Lewis
I went to Ikea Croydon this evening with 2 receipts within the time frame totaling over £500 and I was told they knew nothing about it. Has this gesture of goodwill been made known to them?0 -

There is usually something on the till receipt to identify the VAT items.

Yes they are, they have to, you mean that they are not reducing their prices by 2.1%.
If your receipt says 17.5% it must be an oversight and you need to point this out to the company concerned as it means their tills have not been adjusted. As these are usually done at, or by, Head Office it is probably an oversight. VAT is noted on a receipt so companies can claim this back from HMRC so everyone has to do it.0
