Which companies are passing on the VAT cut? Discussion

I know there is no law but I would have thought as a large company like most large companies it would have passed it on.
and I'm in the camp where I believe greed has been partially to blame for the economic situation.
Greed has but what did the government do about it? Brown kept going on about how we has such a great economy thanks to him. Sorry for bringing up politics but the VAT reduction was a political decision. If the financial services had been regulated properly, more houses built for first time buyers over the years etc etc the UK would be in a better position now. People are inherently greedy, isnt that one of the reasons why we have laws and government? Brown got greedy taking credit for the economy which was already on the up when he inherited it.
You simply cannot expect all companies to choose to pass on this reduction with our current VAT system - it should be like the North American system. Lobby your MP for some changes.0 -
QVC don't seem to have passed on the lower VAT rate.
Cotton Traders have also not reduced online costs. When I asked by telephoned, they said their in-store prices have reduced but they can't reduce online and telephone prices until next year....mmmm....so why is it that the online invoice itemises a higher pre-VAT price + the new 15% VAT element with the overall price remaining the old price..... effecting a price increase.
Disappointing that some retailers are taking advantage at such a busy time of year.0 -
I went to a Shell petrol station on Monday evening. and was charged the OLD VAT rate. The pump price was the same as before, and my receipt clearly said 17.5% VAT.
Isn't that illegal?
No. The government have added 2p tax, so the price has actually gone up 0.4p a litre of petrol all else being equal. They will also put it up in April, so by the time VAT returns to normal petrol prices will be 4.5p a litre higher !!0 -

It's what you have to expect. North American system is far better and more transparent. Don't blame the retailers.0 -

Actually I'm not sure it is legal for them to say 17.5% VAT still.0 -
There's no law that forces them to. Most companies are feeling the pinch at the moment, they're not all going to pass on the reduction. Blame Gordon Brown for messing up the economy.
Trouble is though, the companies do not want to share their good fortune when they're doing well either.
The cut was supposed to help the consumer, not profit the retailers.0 -
Everywhere I've been shopping since the cut have either cut prices or adjusted the VAT at the till.
But what about gyms? I pay £29.50 per month to Total Fitness. Will they cut my subscription costs now?0 -

I understand that Sky subscriptions are not being reduced to reflect lower VAT. Now what a surprise that is (not). When you are a virtual monopoly you can charge what you like. (No virgin cable or freeview in my area so I'm stuck with them). The new freesat service is looking more attractive all the time.
VAT update from Virgin Media
What the VAT reduction means for you
Following the reduction in VAT, we'll be changing the way some of our services are charged.
This means that, from 1st December, calls from your Virgin Media landline will be charged at the reduced VAT rate of 15% (instead of 17.5%).
We're working as fast as we can to reduce our other services, but until we can sort everything out at our end, all other services on your bill will continue to be charged at 17.5%. Don't worry though, we'll keep track of your bills and credit back the difference (from 1st December onwards) as soon as we can.Ex-Employee of a Train Operating Company.

Not sure who else to ask the gym aren't much help unless you are spending money on there over inflated prices - cookies £2!!!!!
