I understand that Sky subscriptions are not being reduced to reflect lower VAT. Now what a surprise that is (not). When you are a virtual monopoly you can charge what you like. (No virgin cable or freeview in my area so I'm stuck with them). The new freesat service is looking more attractive all the time.
do you have a link for this statement?0 -

The website says this:
"we reserve the right to increase or decrease prices due to changes in transportation (fuel) costs, taxes or fluctuation in exchange rates. When any increase applies for any of the foregoing reasons we will absorb the first 2% of such increase to the basic holiday cost excluding any insurance premiums and any amendment charges"
I'm wondering if they'll offset the VAT reduction against the incraese in fuel costs.
Jackie Black - post in the Travel Forum as this is a very complicated question and entirely dependant on where you travel to! VAT is not charged on flights, and on holidays outside the EU if you book with a Tour Operator, but might be charged in commission to a travel agent who books with a Tour Operator, but then you are looking at a 2.5% reduction on 10% of your holiday cost, or, not a lot. But if you are travelling in the UK and the EU, it's a whole different kettle of fish!
So it all depends on the specifics.0 -

But they don't need to??
The new rate is only temporary, not many shops have gone to much trouble except add the discount to the final bill.
I would rather poundland send all those extra 2p profits to a charity than cash in on it.
I just think it should apply to all shops

Chaps just been from green thumb and taken literally 2 minutes to spray my lawn. Handed me the bill which is £19 as always.
The vat element shows 15% but my total is still £19 as usual.
So he has put the price up then!0 -
Bought an item from Maplins Electronics yesterday and they had obviously raised the pre-VAT price as the total cost was the same as it was before 24th November, although the receipt showed VAT at 15%. The cashier just said That's the price.0

Hi, I ordered a TV through littlewoods on 21st Nov but it was only delivered today (03 Dec). I read above that VAT is charged at time of supply but I used a voucher for buy now pay 2009. I don't know where I stand as the TV was received after the rate change and I won't be making payments until next year??
Any advice anyone?
Thanks.0 -
I went into Aldi to buy 2 6 mile hand held radios with base recharger unit on Friday it was £24.99 yestderday it was still priced up at £24.99 on the ticket but at the till it was £19.99! A right bargain! Cheap for kids to speak to their mates in the village within a 6 mile radius!"You may say I am a dreamer - but I'm Not the only one!" Amber;-)0

The White Company have reflected the VAT reduction on their website, stores and call centre.0

Sky's web site still lists the same prices as November, so I guess they are not passing the cut on.
Freesat, anyone ?0
