I purchased 2 Laptops at Currys.
Their prices are cheaper than advertised:j due to the new 15%tax rate. So I saved £40 without knowing until the helpful assistant realised the total didn't add up...
Needless to say, I didn't argue
Well done to the Currys/PCWorld chain:T0 -
So far this week, I've purchased xmas gifts from Argos, Lakeland & Amazon and they have all passed on the VAT reduction.
Have also purchased online from Jo Jo Maman today and they didn't pass on the reduction.
Perhaps it would be useful to have a separate thread of who is not passing on the reduction.0 -
My mum's ordered and paid for two sofa's from Ikea, but they don't deliver until next week. Is she entitled to ask for a refund of the VAT difference?0

I work at HMV and although the items are stickered with the old prices, we do a manual reduction of 2.13% at the till on relevant items (for example books, magazines and giftcards are NOT VAT applicable so do not get the extra reduction.0

Shopping at Hawkins today I found that, rather than altering the prices of their hundreds of stocking fillers and bigger presents, they are asking you to present your till receipts after Christmas to get a 15% reduction. If you can't get back to the shop, you can do it on line, they say.0

I went to a Shell petrol station on Monday evening. and was charged the OLD VAT rate. The pump price was the same as before, and my receipt clearly said 17.5% VAT.
Isn't that illegal?0 -
I bought some things from TESCO earlier this week (sandwiches, milk, fruit) and I don't think they were any cheaper than last week. No deduction on the receipt either. Massive poster outside advertising the VAT reduction in store. . Seems misleading to say the least, as this represents a price increase.0

You have to remember that alot of food does not have VAT on it anyway so this may have been why. VAT is a little complex when it comes to food.:cheesy: K2nga :cheesy:

What about naming and shaming companies that are not passing and therefore profiteering.
Virgin Active - although they say they will be investing during 2009, however should they not be doing that anyway?
Loch Fyne resturants who said that they will review it in January.
I am in the process of cancelling my gym membership and ate last night at Strada who have passed the reduction on.0 -
another thing that skews this is the fact that so many retailers are having sales anyway a lot of prices are already reduced.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..
