What about if you've booked, and paid a deposit on a holiday for next year - will there be a VAT reduction in the balance?
The website says this:
"we reserve the right to increase or decrease prices due to changes in transportation (fuel) costs, taxes or fluctuation in exchange rates. When any increase applies for any of the foregoing reasons we will absorb the first 2% of such increase to the basic holiday cost excluding any insurance premiums and any amendment charges"

I'm wondering if they'll offset the VAT reduction against the incraese in fuel costs.

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

Oxfam have reduced VAT on all new bought in goods that are liable to VAT. This includes Christmas Cards, Gifts, Change Starts Here products and the Food items subject to VAT - mostly chocolate. Donated goods are not subject to VAT.

Prices on items unlikely to be changed but volunteers have a chart at the till to show the lower prices.

Put the VAT saving in the collection box and help some of the poorest people in the world.

Well done Oxfam.

Filtched from "thinkbroadband" web site:

VAT changes and the effect on broadband

Monday 01 December 2008 14:04:18 by Andrew Ferguson

It seems some providers are making announcements about the price drop that lowering VAT from 17.5% to 15% results in for consumers. Those providers where we know of a change are listed below:
• Be Broadband is lowering prices by 50p per month across the board, i.e. Be Value will drop to £13.50 from £14, Be Unlimited from £18 to £17.50 and Be Pro from £22 to £21.50. A flat rate price drop means that customers will be benefiting from more than a 2.5% price drop.
• Andrews & Arnold announced it would be passing on the 2.1% saving way back on 24th November.
• Zen Internet has updated its website to reflect the reduction.
• Plusnet covers the issue in its community blog and is rounding down prices, e.g. a £9.99 product is reducing to £9.75 rather than the £9.78 that the maths suggests.
• The BT Total website is showing the reductions.
• Entanet who sells broadband via a network of resellers is now invoicing at the new rate of 15%.
• Newnet is retaining its current net prices, so the VAT inclusive price will be dropping e.g. their Home S service will drop from £19.95 to £19.53 for consumers.
While the 2.1% reduction in price to consumers looks minimal over time the savings will add up. What would have been radical would be for broadband and telephone services to be billed at the same rate as gas and electricity which is just 5%.

Personally I would rather pay Plusnet/metronet/MAAF = BT the extra 24 pence if I could get back the "Samara" level of service.
• I've ordered a £3,000 kitchen from B & Q.

This was done three weeks ago. At the time, I opened the B & Q Credit Account to get an interest free deal for 3 months.

The kitchen will not be delivered until January.

Do they have to give me a further reduction due to the VAT decrease?

Cheers

FP

Next, Peacocks, H&M, Ikea all are.

Poundland not.
• Surey it would cost Poundland a fortune to change their name to Nintyeightpenceland.

Prices on Boots Kitchen Appliances website don't seem to have altered.

The price of a fridge/freezer I want is still the same as it has been for the past few weeks. :(
• SKY TV Subscriptions

I understand that Sky subscriptions are not being reduced to reflect lower VAT. Now what a surprise that is (not). When you are a virtual monopoly you can charge what you like. (No virgin cable or freeview in my area so I'm stuck with them). The new freesat service is looking more attractive all the time.

I have been following the prices of tumble dryers on the Debenhams website, and the prices haven't changed, even when you get to checkout.

This is what their website says

VAT UPDATE
We’re lowering the cost of Christmas by reducing our VAT on all items online and in store. This means that when you shop online during the Christmas Event you can take advantage of our great savings and a further VAT reduction for a more cost-effective Christmas.

Plus… after the Christmas Festival Event has ended we will apply the VAT reduction across all our items where VAT applies.
