Which companies are passing on the VAT cut? Discussion

I went to the Poundland shop and was still charged £1 each for the items I bought. This means a price increase.
You want them to change their name to 98pland? That would be expensive mate. Again you really have to blame our VAT system and the fact the tax is not added on at point of sale like in the US.0

Cobblers. So I cant blame the UK companies eg Northern Rock, HBOS, RBS etc for doing exactly the same thing here? And I cant blame Brown for sailing along on the boom economy gathering praise for his "skillful" handling of the economy? Think again.0

We bought a new car the week before the VAT cut signed all the paperwork for credit and paid the deposit. We had it delivered on Friday before the Monday VAT cut and they still gave us the VAT back. They need not have done it but all credit (excuse the pun) to them!0

I think trains. buses and farmers are zero rated. This is not the same thing as exempt.
A zero rated activity get "subsidised" as any VAT they have to pay they can reclaim while charging their customers at a rate of zero percent.
I went into Aldi & Lidl this morning (they are only 100 yards apart) to check out the "Thursday Offers"
Lidl were right on the ball with posters not only saying the prices had been reduced but also how VAT on groceries worked and pointing out they had absorbed the net increase through excise duty on alcohol.
Aldi charged me the lower vat rate on something labelled 9.99, when I got to the till.

while the VAT rate cut is great, spare a thought for us on the other side of the pond, where VAT is to be increased from 21% to 21.5%. This was done to try recoup the lost revenue from so many Irish people going to Northern Ireland to take advantage of the great bargains there partially caused by the weak sterling, which are only going to get better now UK Vat has been reduced! 3-4 hour tailbacks from Dundalk to Newry a trip that usually takes 15 mins! and our Goverment says those who do go to NI are unpatriotic!!??? well we cant all afford to be patriotic anymore...0
