  • I thought I would post an update before the kids and I go and pick up DH.

Thanks for the agreement on saving the money, if nothing else we can always use it towards the moving fund.

My paperwork came through for ING Direct; I just need to get it sorted now as to what I was opening it for…I can’t remember so will have to have a trawl through my thread to find out

I counted up the money that is in the demi-john, because I am a nosy moo, and there is approximately £40 in there, a long way to go until Christmas and I am determined not to use it or count it again as it is for Christmas! :)

The terramundi on the other hand is nearly full, I know I have been saying it time and time again but I think about £20 in £1 coins should complete it and then I can break it open :D

DH’s new credit card came through and as soon as the first bill arrives I can start and plough spare money on that…might start the PAD again.

Karmacat – We probably do spend a lot on alcohol but it’s mainly wine that we drink most of and trying to make our own is impossible as we don’t have the room. My cutting down on alcohol isn’t going to bad but needs improvement and we’ve cut down on going to the pub dramatically. We used to go Fri, Sat and Sun but now we are down to one day a weekend be it Sat or Sun but not Fri.
  • Another icy morning here but it is Wednesday and it is half way through the week, so one more step to weekend.

DH is working at the flying club this weekend and is in desperate need to go flying, I have told him to do it but for this once to put it on the credit card…I know I shouldn’t but if he doesn’t fly he’ll need a check flight with an instructor and that will cost even more and as DH doesn’t have enough tach hours built up we will have to pay for this one.

On the money side of things; DH gets paid in 24 days if they decide to pay him on the Friday or 27 days if they pay him on the Monday as pay day for him will fall on a Saturday next month. I have had a look at the bank account and we are in the overdraft again not as bad as we have been so that’s a start, I just need to keep it that way so we don’t go over it or to the limit. More NSD’s needed I think.

DH had a shock when I told him that his wage and his bonus paid for Christmas, he wasn’t too happy about that but I did explain that his wage cleared the overdraft so we were ‘down’ to begin with :o

We got a letter from Cheltenham & Gloucester yesterday confirming that the mortgage has gone down again by £40 and will be effective on February’s payment, so that’s good. DH queried whether we were on a repayment or interest only mortgage, I told him it was a repayment one as I’d checked that so he’s quite pleased that the mortgage is going down albeit a bit at a time :)

I think I need to redo our S.O.A so I can figure out what we can do next to reduce our outgoings further. The mobile is now only mine that we pay for and judging by last months bill I seriously need to reduce my texting, so am working on that from now.

I have also reduced dramatically the time that the tumble dryer is on, it was on quite a lot over Christmas along with the heating so I am dreading the bill coming through :( Come the end of February/March I think that the heating may be turned off until November or if it is on, it is on for a little while to warm through the house.

I’m going to go and do some competitions so I’ll catch up later.

    good luck for your competitions.

  • Thought I should update even if it’s only a short one.

Not much to report really, I have gone over my budget for the week again so I need to get to grips on it or slightly increase it a week…I think I’ll try for £25 next week and see how I get on.

We’ve misplaced a certificate that DH needs for work that shows his Skillcard is up to date as the H.O lost the copy he sent them. It may be a case of we bite the bullet and get a new one but it’ll cost us money to get one though

I still need to go through the finances and re-do our SOA so that I can figure out the money that I thought was spare is spare and I am doing okay giving it to SiL.

I have done absolutely nothing in the house today, I’m way too tired so apart from washing up and emptying the bin I think that’ll do for today and I’ll catch up again tomorrow…will mean no MSE when I’ve dropped DS off at school in the morning but needs must even if it’s only for a little while.

I need to list stuff on e-bay which I haven’t yet, so that can be done tomorrow too.

On the up side I have been entering a fair few competitions so fingers crossed I’ll win something soon.
  • This may or may not come as a shock to some people but I have decided to leave my diary and MSE alone for a short time and concentrate on my family and ‘me’ and I can’t get rid of the debt properly until I do.

I will still be reading people’s posts (I’m nosy but you knew that :p ) but I do need to take a backseat for the present.

Hopefully when I come back I will be more positive at tackling the debt and who knows even debt-free

Oh Tea! Sorry to hear you're not feeling positive .... if you've lost your focus on your family, maybe its for the best to back away ... so many people need to for a while, I know that. All the best to you - hope to see you around, but of course its understandable that you put your family first. And that the way you do that varies from time to time.

    Hugs
    xx

  • Okay, I’m back after my break. I needed to get my head straight with regards to debt-busting and my family life and I lost all positivity and where I was supposed to be going.

    The positive’s I achieved in January :D :
    • I finally filled my terramundi and managed to save £654 of which £400 was just £2 coins.
    • I sold two items on Amazon
    • Because of what I saved I am now sorted for Christmas.
    • SiL will be given an extra £200 this month (Feb) as an overpayment because of the above.
    • DH had a great 40th Birthday
    • Spent £1 on a scratch card and won the £1 back again
    • I have started to enter competitions again and may win something soon
    The negatives :o :
    • I haven’t been to the bank yet as I can’t get there due to the snow and living on a hill.
    • Didn’t reach my target of £400 that I wanted to make.
    • Didn’t manage many NSD’s
    • Over spent on the grocery budget again!
    • Overspent on my weekly allowance and need to get a grip on it.
So new month and a chance to redeem myself and a whole new set of challenges, I am not going to update this diary again until next week as I need to sort out what my next plan of action is going to be.
