Another IBS sufferer here. I can't seem to find any real "pattern" to it with what I eat. The only thing I can ever think "hmm, might get a dicky tummy after this" is with Jacket potatoes and cheese, but sometimes I'm bad, sometimes I'm fine. I generally feel bloated and windy most of the time, and an "attack" as my OH politely calls it could occur at anytime. Mine is much worse with stress levels rather than what I'm eating. I've given up speaking to my GP about it, all she ever wants to do is give me anti-depressants
Food for today anyway:
Breakfast - Small bowl of Muesli, dried fruit and nuts.
Lunch - WM roll with goats cheese and roasted peppers.
Dinner - Smallish piece of HM cheese and onion quiche, salad
Snacks - 1 banana, 3 Cadbury Roses from a tin from Xmas
(might have to add another snack later if OH is late from work)Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time0 -
I've managed to sts this week, which considering I've been possessed by the chocolate monster this week (and normally I'm not a massive fan) I'll take it. Think I will top it off with a couple of glasses of wine and draw a line under the week!
Hope everyone is keeping well0 -
not a graet today
went to a friends for lunch and he had made me the most delicious lemon drizzle cake. 2 pieces found there way in somehow
also had a chicken and brie panini for lunch and am about to devour scampi for dinner.
now today wasnt great but not disasterous either, the big question is how do i get away from the mindset of 'ive had a bad day, its totally blown, might as well eat like a pig and forget the diet!!'
how do you all manage this, i think this is probably my biggest issue with 'trying to lose weight.
thanks

For me, it's about thinking through the choice. I know that years ago, i would use one bad day or one bad event as an excuse to go off the rails, it wasn't my fault you see
Now, I understand that everything I eat is a choice, and that the only person responsible for that choice is me. So if I make a bad choice, then I forgive myself, draw a line under it, and let it go. (I use the Sedona method for letting go of negative or unwanted emotions).
Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0 -
thats very sensible rationale, i spend half my life getting people to take responsibility for their choices and actions (thats a big part of my job)
perhaps its time to practice what i preach!

Thanks for the "well done" on the weight loss gives you a bit of a boost I must say.
Though that is not the reason I have come on was reading how many people suffer from IBS which is a difficult condition to live with at the best of times eating can be like walking on a tight rope wondering "will this bring on an episode"
Getting the right treatment is like walking a mine field for many sufferers. wyrdsister I am not sure if you have gone down this route to see if you have any luck. If your practice has other doctors ask to see another doctor that works there. It may mean that another GP is more sympathetic to your plight and treat actively rather than dishing out anti depressants
Why I say this is not in regard to IBS but I was having symptoms and went to my GP's and he didn't bother to examine me but referred me to the dietitian. I knew from my own nursing background that it wasn't this. So my husband convinced me to see the other doctor in the practice. I am so grateful he did the other doctor was like a breath of fresh air. To cut a long story short he saw past the weight and examined me. I was referred to the neurologist who diagnosed me with MS. So another doctor might not think you have depression and be sidelined by that. Instead they may start you on different IBS treatments which might make your life a wee bit easier.
vixtress It has taken me a while to type this out so several other posters have added to the thread I think the key for me for not giving up and thinking blow it has been planning and organisation which at first wasn’t that easy I must admit but it does get easy as time goes by. Plan for the next day’s meals or for the next few if you have the time. This way meals out that are scheduled with friends are already featured in that days meal s and snacks. So I have what I am having for lunch but the rest of the meals will be just that wee bit lighter in nature to counterbalance my meal out. Remember one day of blow out is not going to put your weight back on that you have lost. If the scales are up that week that are not due to just that day of bad choices. We gain weight for a variety of reasons it not all food based. So do not panic and throw your good work away.
Another tip that I find useful is to batch cook then you have a healthy meal stored in the freezer for times when cooking a meal from scratch is virtually impossible. If you have one portion left from a meal again pop into the freezer and they can be again used like ready made meals from the shops but a fraction of the cost. Though more importantly it is healthy and can easily fit into your daily plan. I use these for days when I do not feel so good and still I can stay on plan rather than before going having a take out.
Remember as well we will all have those occasions that just spring up go and enjoy them but next meal is back on plan. At first I used to write my meal plan out now I can do it in my head. I think the writing it out religiously every day it became habit eventually. Funnily enough now I enjoy planning them out and making sure I have variety of fruit and vegetables etc.0 -

purpleorc thank you for your very thoughtful reply, i know what you say is right, i think i just need to hear it from other people too.
i was reall good at meal planning and shopping list writing but since getting a very stressful new job last september it all went a bit out of the window. i have been a bit better since xmas and have really made more of an effort which has certainly helped. i do find though when i come home from work feeling really stressed the last thing i want is to cook. (the kids have already eaten)
what sort of healthy things do you batch cook, i do spag bol (with turkey mince usually) some stews, sheperds pie. myhealthy range starts to wane a bit there though. must start using the slow cooker more.
i could do with some batch cooking that has a fair amomount of veg in, i find that its veggies i cant really face preparing and cooking when im tired and stressed (pathetic excuse i know!)
thatnks for all of your help
