    Morning folks :D

Still sticking 100% to plan, just starting to wonder if there is anyone else left who isn't doing SW or WW? Its getting lonely :o

    Me! :hello:

I don't do WW or SW - I get all weird and obsessed with counting things if I do that and then I start weighing myself 3 times a day and it freaks me out ;)

So I do "healthy" eating. Increasing exercise (walking), cutting down fat, increasing fruit and veg and reducing biscuits, cakes and sweets and then just going with the flow. :D

I can't "ban" any foods either coz otherwise that's all I want to eat and the diet fails on day 2 :o

Anyway - walked 6.5 miles on monday, 3 miles yesterday lunch time and 3 miles to work this morning. My goodness my buttocks ache!! :o I'm about ready to crawl under the desk and have a kip now! ;)

Food today (bit more snacks as I feel so tired):

b: oats soaked in water with syrup and nana
l: soup (leftover juice and veg from the chicken casserole) with a roll
    d: Chilli wraps

Snacks - malt loaf, ww oat biscuits (just coz they're less fat) and a very small piece of the chocolate cake that stepson made at school :p - coz it would just be rude not to eat it.

  • Good morning!

Yesterday went well. I allowed myself some chocolate as I just go a bit mad if I don't let myself have some treats (and I'm definately a chocoholic)
Been for a run this morning, which makes me feel brilliant in general and specifically less guilty about the chocolate! TBH I felt the run was much easier this morning (Week 1 Day 3 of Couch 2 5k) so I'm probably ready for Week 2.

    Here's today's plan:
Breakfast - 2 slices raisin loaf with cinnamon, cup of tea
Dinner - sandwich from shop with winter veg soup
    Supper - don't know yet!
    Snacks - muller light, clementines

Last night's supper was lush, by the way! And would be free on SW EE or on a red day:

    Chicken 'Nantygollen'

    2 chicken breasts
    4 rashers bacon
half a jar of passata (leftover from bolognese on Mon night)
    mixed herbs
    lea and perrins
    onion
    garlic
    salt pepper
    grated cheese (mature)
    1. wrap each chicken breast in two rashers of bacon. place in deep baking dish with the 'ends' of the bacon under the chicken (i.e. so you can't see them) put some foil over the dish and bake for 20 mins in a 200c oven.
    2. in the meantime, fry (frylight) some chopped onion and chopped garlic, add the passata, herbs and lea and perrins. Simmer until it's reduced a bit (to your liking really)
    3. take the foil off the baking dish and return to the oven for 10 minutes
    4. after 10 minutes pour the tomato sauce over the chicken/bacon and sprinkle the grated cheese over. bake for another 10 minutes until the cheese is melted to your liking
    5. I served it with rice and it was lush!
    Cymru am Byth!

Me Floyd! Although obviously my surgery affects what I can and can't eat, I aim for well balanced but protein rich meals.

Had a sneaky weigh in today, so since monday i've lost another 1lb. Wanted to get my weight under 200lbs so now at 199lbs I've done that :)

Now completely unable to exercise, and having to use 2 crutches, so my weight losses are sloooooow. Still, down is down and that's all that counts.
    Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j
  • Well I finally did it....I've taken my measurments, the first since Christmas.

The good news is that I left it so long I've managed to lose all the weight I put on over Christmas and am now back where I was in mid-December. Which I guess isn't too bad.

Not sure how I'll do this week. Have a horrible chest infection so can't do any proper exercise due to it leading to slight breathing problems! So have been sitting around at home for the last couple of days trying not just to eat junk. But back to work today so at least I'm getting out and I'm away from the ever present boxes of left over Christmas chocs!

It may be a silly point... but if I want to slightly increase my exercise in a really easy way (when I feel a bit grotty) then I take things one item at a time from the front room to put away/put in dishwasher. Means I'm walking about for ages stacking the dishwasher - and do the same emptying the dishwasher. Only a few more calories burned but still ;)

Used to do the same for taking things from the front room upstairs to the bedroom... but now I live in a flat so don't have the added staircase exercise.

Thats a good idea. My dishwasher button broke a couple of weeks ago and I have been washing up everything by hand. Funny enough I quite enjoy it , the kitchen is a lot tidier and I am getting more exercise. My dishwasher, which is now unplugged is filled with fresh fruit and veg! - good for storage as its dark and cool!

ps - once I decided I would get more exercise if I didn't use the remote control - I got my husband to take the buttons with him when he went out. I ended up watching the same channel all night!:o:o:p:rotfl:

Welcome oompahloopah, I'm sure you'll find lots of support and ideas here.

Having a good day so far:

    breakfast: apple and sultana bran

Lunch: salad, whoopsied smoked trout and scrambled eggs

(rogue choccie biscuit mid-morning at playgroup)

Dinner: Some sort of curry thing. might be alcohol around tonight as well, am undecided whether to drink or not - don't want the following day's carb attack!

    Hello again!

Re the above - it actually bugs me somewhat that everywhere you look these days it seems you have to pay money to lose weight! Why can't people do it without following WW, SW, Atkins, Lo GI, Paul McKenna. I did WW and for me it was the need to stand up and say I have an eating problem, I can't keep my gob shut and cakes keep flying in! ;) WW classes helped me to aim for something each week so that I could lose when I got to class. These days though I just think in WW and don't actually go to class. I do maths for a living so points makes sense to me as I can add up everything as i go. I think the problem with the amount of prepacked food around is that there are a lot of hidden calories in things. My main issue being yoghurts! They can put so much rubbish in them! How???

I guess I joined you guys to try and get a more OS influence in my diet. I followed the shabby chic thread and very OS in a lot of my day to day life but I find a lot of OS recipes contain high sugar/fat. they are after all designed for times when these things were hard to come by and vital to keep a family going. So.... anyone got a good OS but low fat recipe? particularly cake!! :T

.... anyone got a good OS but low fat recipe? particularly cake!! :T
Morag's Tea Loaf (my version of RC's Kim's Cake)
    450 g (1lb) mixed dry fruit
1 (or 2) of hot black tea
1/2 mug soft brown sugar (I try to reduce this down to zero)
2 mugs self raising wholemeal flour
    1 beaten egg
    1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
    Orange juice to mix
    1. Soak the dried fruit overnight in a mug (or 2) of hot black tea..
    2. Mix all ingredients together, adding the OJ last to make a "sloppy" mixture
    3. Place in a loaf tin (pre-greased and floured - the only fat I use in this recipe)
    4. Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours at 160 degrees C (325 degrees F or Gas Mark 3)
    5. Allow to cool and then place in a tin or freezer bag for a couple of days before either eating or freezing - enjoy!
It uses no fat and I can sometimes get away with no sugar at all as I add cinnamon and use orange juice as part of the liquid. My son is Type 1 Diabetic and he loves a slice in his packed lunch! It is best a day or two old when allowed to mature. I tend to make 2 or 3 at a time and after maturing for a few days (in freezer bags), I slice two of them and pop into the freezer. I make my Christmas cake using this recipe having cherries in my fruit mixture and adding some nuts...adding a bit extra flour and perhaps an extra egg to bulk it up....just play it by ear!

I can get away with less than half the sugar (sometimes less!) in Twink's Hobnobs recipe. I add more hot water to the melting marg, sugar and syrup to make the mixture the correct consistency.
    Morag's version of Twink's Hobnobs

    8oz SR Wholemeal Flour
8oz Porridge Oats (sometimes I use Jumbo oats)
8oz marg or butter (I use Tesco's Sunflower Enriched Spread 59% fat)
    4oz (or less) sugar
    1 tablespoon syrup
2 tablespoons (or more) hot water
    1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
    1. Melt the marg, sugar, syrup and water in a pan, do not boil
    2. Add and whisk the bic. soda into the melted ingredients
    3. Mix flour and oats in a bowl
    4. Add the melted ingredients and mix well.
    5. Add more hot water to make a soft mixture
    6. While still warm roll into a ball about a tea spoonfull's worth of mixture with damp hands
    7. Place on a greased (or silicon sheet on a) baking tray and flatten with a fork dipped in warm water to prevent sticking
    8. You should get about 60 or so, though you can make them bigger and get less.
    9. Cook in an oven at 180oC for 15 mins, you just want them golden not brown
    10. Leave to cool on the tray, though if you take them off the tray while still warm, they will be a bit chewy - nom,nom
    Have fun with these!
