 I have jsut checked my online bank of scotland instant savings a/c which i have had for 10 years with a view to temp move my isa money there until the certificate arrives shock horror:eek: they have dropped the interest rate to 2.96 from 4.25 and no advice they have done this.

anyone suggest a good safe easy access savings paying monthly ??? and who knows if the BOE drop this week will happen

Hi st. I hope you're feeling ok.
AA Internet Saver pays 4.53% at the moment (rate has just gone down but it may go down again). Interest is paid monthly into a nominated account (for some reason). Kaupthing-edge (now owned by ING) also pays monthly (into account) and the AER is at the moment 4.55%.

Know one knows for sure if rates will drop this week or if they do by how much, anything people say about 1% cut is conjecture ATM.

I have the same problem with my NatWest e save account, they have just slashed the rate but if one moves elsewhere you lose interest during the move and then you find the place you have moved to cut's their rates too, it is hopeless for savers ATM unless you can do fixed.

  • i would love to be chasing a fixed rate ISA, but i just can't risk it in case we need the money (we have our own business & predicting levels of work isn't exactly easy at the moment...).

so, i've opted for Scottish Widows, after much to'ing & fro'ing. seem the best of the bunch at the moment, but with more rate drops to come no doubt :(

    have good day guys

p.s. egg savings dropped their rates wef 14th Nov, just got the email today!

I have had an accounts with them for about 2 years and have found them very helpful. All their transfers are by CHAPS at no extra charge - I got £600 out of the 7 day notice account about 2 weeks ago and as I was prepared to forego the notice I had the money in my account a couple of hours later.

The real question mark with them is that their share price is at rock bottom and if they go under you will be going down the Icesave slippery slope again. The Irish government's 100% guarantee is not worth that much imo but I would think HMG would come to the rescue. Wishful thinking perhaps but I have a bond with them and cannot afford to be other than optimistic.

Suesie, where did you get this from? I just checked their website and their savings account gives a 'sizzling' 4.50% gross pa (including bonus).

ING (according to my records) is paying 2.75%. Kaupthing (now owned by ING), however, is paying 4.55%.
