From today's FT
There were also hopes that the Bank of England was preparing to make further cuts to interest rates after the December meeting of the monetary policy committee on Thursday.
“Latest data and survey evidence point to deepening contraction in economic activity as well as rapidly diminishing inflationary pressures,” said Howard Archer, chief UK and European economist at IHS Global Insight.
“Given the deepening economic downturn, sharply retreating inflationary pressures and ongoing very tight credit conditions, we are looking to the Bank of England to slash interest rates from 3 per cent to 2 per cent on Thursday. Further out, we expect interest rates to come down to 1 per cent in the early months of 2009 and then stay there for the rest of the year.”

 I always thought that interest rates should be increased to solve this huge debt problem and also for savers too -should be 2 interest rates -personal and a lower commercial rate for business -but then I am not an economist and neither is Mr Brown for that matter0 -

You will probably need to call the icesave customer helpline again on 0845 605 6050 to see if you can work out why you haven't received the password. This is the advice given in the icesave FSCS FAQ (q15 -19)which can be accessed from
http://www.fscs.org.uk/faq/icesave_faqs/
If this does not work you can try completing the "web form" which is linked to from
http://www.fscs.org.uk/consumer/
although I think this is really intended for those who can login but cannot initiate their redress,
If this fails you may need to use the paper application route.

Suesie, where did you get this from? I just checked their website and their savings account gives a 'sizzling' 4.50% gross pa (including bonus).
Hi They emailed it to me this morning:
Dear Mrs *** ******
As you may already know, the Bank of England recently decreased the Base Rate from 4.50% to 3.00%. In line with this, we've decreased the rates on our Egg Savings Account (internet) by 1.50% as shown below.
The rate below is applicable for the first 12 months from account opening:
Balance Up until
13 Nov 2008 From
14 Nov 2008 Variable rate including introductory 12 month variable bonus £1 to £100,000 6.55% gross pa/AER 5.05% gross pa/AER"Serious money saving Diva"........................................:p
Whatever the mind can conceive, it can achieve.............:happylove0
