Ah! Got it a very gentlemanly way of putting us back on track, back in order. I had a sergeant who tried to do that with me for 15 years poor devil. It was a very stressful job and humour was a great release. Once they issued us with a polaroid camera to only photograph very serious crime scenes. I use to take pictures of unforunates who'd had their bikes stolen form the local shopping precinct. Told them a picture was necessary for the file. People posing in front of Cost Cutter pointing at a void where their bike had last been seen. " Could you look a little sadder sir, it will add weight to the case."
Or people who's shed had been burgled. Getting them to sadly pose and indicate from where the strimmer had been stolen.
Used to drive my "superiors" crackers. ;):D

Worst I did was dump a car on a dual carriageway at 1:00 a.m cos the alternator had gone....I was only 19...but the officer that accosted us said we should have made a bigger effort to "bump" the un-lit dump onto the hard-shoulder as he nearly hit it approaching it. I was taken intio the back of the vehicle and charged - don't recall ever shaking so much!

I was very lucky to get off with that - my Dad helped me write a grovelling letter of apology and "mitigating circumstances" (lunacy in the family I think).
