  • Mizmir, can I join in with your thread, I do have my own, but I'm on a similar mission and intending to be debt free by next xmas too. I've bounced around and since my LBM, my debt hasn't truely started going down until this month.

Of course! The more the merrier. Welcome! We can encourage each other. I know the feeling about the bouncing around - mine has gone down but way slower than it might have done if I'd had better focus. :o

glad you had a good weekend. good luck with the talk with OH, but I agree, she needs to be aware of the finances, even if she leaves it to you to do all the actual finance "stuff".....

Definitely - and we did make the time tonight. Had a stiff drink and I took her through the snowball, the bank account and the new budget. She seemed happy with it, raised a couple of points which were perfectly reasonable and I will have to look at and agreed to keep a spending diary.

We also decided to experiment with having "cash pots" for each main budget area - food, fuel, personal - and withdrawing what we have budgeted and spending from there (rather than just paying by card). If we need to pay for something by card (say online) we would then take that amount out of the relevant "pot" and put it in a "bank" to be returned to the actual account on a regular basis.

Does that make sense? Has anyone tried that sort of thing? I just think spending cash will help us realise what we are doing!

Things are good here. Think we're moving forward slowly but we'll get there. Am resisting the temptation to join lots of challenges etc. - just hypno's big one - as I find I burn out keeping up with them all and then give up after a few months. I need to be able to keep up with things on minutes rather than hours a day!

That's got to be easier now that you've managed to have a chat with the OH and that you are both with it.I agree with the being able to keep up in minutes rather than hours theory as well.Nice to see you've had a nice relaxing weekend.
