    Hi all!

Just completed my 3rd day of training after starting Monday.

Going well so far, was 16 on the intial induction with 4 of us being based at City JCP (Head Office i believe for that area)

Lots of new skills to pick up.

Have an EO interview this friday for position in north Essex/Chelmsford.

Anyone here going or been to that one?

    or

Anyone else start this week at JCP??

Good luck for the interview on 11th.I am sure you will keep your record.

I followed the 'STAR' as well but prepared only 200 words for each competency.

I am still waiting for my CRB.I tried calling DWP but the number given keeps ringing.Shall try again.

Did you have your induction at the same JCP?
  • would have to say in my experiance the DWP and the job centre are just a joke my local job centre shall remain nameless on here dont have a clue they never awnswer the phone have actually watch them pick up the phone and put it straight down again even when there sitting at a desk doing nothing.

I have watched them have gospie with other staff instead of seeing clients on time was there over an hour and half on wed waiting to be see others had been waiting up to two hours
  • I got offered the job on thursday and started on the following monday (monday just gone!). it was literally a case of a few weeks between my CRB clearance and me actually starting.
Do not worry..as soon as a suitable vacancy comes up you will be notified. Do not pay particular attention to the merit list, I was on 400 and am now almost through my first week!

I will say the job in itself is very, very tedious. It doesn't look like there is much progression for fixed term newbies as many permanent AOs/EOs are still waiting to move up a grade after a few years! Training is a total drag. I have had more fun at funerals! HOWEVER to be fair, the people are all very, very lovely and you will be warmly welcomed. Its a bore but then its got plus points. Be prepared to toughen up too, I have seen people that are in awful situations. Its really hard to witness and moreso as I was in their position only a few weeks back on the job hunt.

Do not worry yourself guys, honestly! All will work out-just as soon as your local area is ready to take you. This merit bull means nothing...I saw people on my training with 20/21 pass marks.

    All the best!!
  • ONE MORE THING..enjoy your free time while you can!! Trust me, you will know what I mean once you start..training will reveal all! And yet all the same, be very grateful because there are people out there literally living on 40 quid a week. :-(

What was you doing in the jobcentre for an hour and a half? and why wasn't you paying attention to your interview or whatever instead of looking around the place. :)

  • Thanks for the info, may I ask what Jobcentre you where placed at

    Kind Regards

Unfortunately, I would have to agree here. My local JCP is pretty much like that and I had to wait (standing up) for nearly 2 hours to get signed on by a FJR officer. No apologies and did they even look at my jobsearch? I'll let you guess that one.

As things go in life, I have a chance to not do that as I find myself on the other side now and I fully intend on not slipping down that path in the coming months. Thanks for sharing your honest experience.

Could I ask - this "MERIT LIST"
How do you find out where you stand in the "ranking" ?
I have been told that despite being CRB cleared - I just have to wait - I passed the interview and test over 2 months ago and received my CRB clearance a month ago....
I know for a fact that none of my referees have been approached yet either.
  • Thank you Fivefootsix, I received my CRB yesterday. Another 4 weeks to wait?
Yep, they should send it you so if they don't, phone them and ask where it is. I think I got mine about 2 weeks later than the date on the CRB.
