I got offered the job on thursday and started on the following monday (monday just gone!). it was literally a case of a few weeks between my CRB clearance and me actually starting.
Do not worry..as soon as a suitable vacancy comes up you will be notified. Do not pay particular attention to the merit list, I was on 400 and am now almost through my first week!

I will say the job in itself is very, very tedious. It doesn't look like there is much progression for fixed term newbies as many permanent AOs/EOs are still waiting to move up a grade after a few years! Training is a total drag. I have had more fun at funerals! HOWEVER to be fair, the people are all very, very lovely and you will be warmly welcomed. Its a bore but then its got plus points. Be prepared to toughen up too, I have seen people that are in awful situations. Its really hard to witness and moreso as I was in their position only a few weeks back on the job hunt.

Do not worry yourself guys, honestly! All will work out-just as soon as your local area is ready to take you. This merit bull means nothing...I saw people on my training with 20/21 pass marks.

All the best!!
• i have a number to call for the checking team, i get through all the time.. im currently not at home so i will deffo post the number for people who want to know whats going on when i get back. i called them on monday and told all my checks were completed on the 3rd so i just have to wait on a placement now...
• Hello, well, I have received the call, for an AO position. A couple of weeks ago I received the offer in the mail. I have to sign and accept/decline the offer and send it back. The thing is, im not sure if I want the position now. I know its sounds awful especially that so many of you are dying to get the call. My question is if I sign and accept this position, and then a week or so later decide I do not want it, can I call and withdrawal my acceptance. Or am I legally obligated to start with DWP once I have signed and sent in my acceptance letter? The reasons for my doubts, are good ones that I dont want to post and put off other people.
Thanks for your help!

Could I ask - this "MERIT LIST"
How do you find out where you stand in the "ranking" ?
I have been told that despite being CRB cleared - I just have to wait - I passed the interview and test over 2 months ago and received my CRB clearance a month ago....
I know for a fact that none of my referees have been approached yet either.

If you phone them or send an email (RESOURCING.CUSTOMERSERVICES@DWP.GSI.GOV.UK )they should tell you but depends on who speak to as some people seem to be reluctant to tell you anything.

You should be able to find out by now I should think. I emailed when I hadn't had my CRB and they told me the checks hadn't cleared but still told me my place on list which was a bit odd.

I got my disclosure back but no word from them yet : (

yeh just received my disclosure too but it was dated 3rd december... ppl are saying it takes 2 weeks to get a start date i bet this another bulls*** lol. how long ago did u get yours.
• What was you doing in the jobcentre for an hour and a half? and why wasn't you paying attention to your interview or whatever instead of looking around the place. :)

I was waiting to sign on i just thought why i was waiting i would have a look at what actually was going on its a normaly experiance to be waiting that long a hour and half is propably one of the quickest times I been seen.

According to an email received from DWP HR -JCP have drastically underestimated the number of applicants for these posts and unfortunately only some will be offered positions (those that are sucessful will be notified by the end of December - the rest will have to wait until the end of January before being informed of the action that DWP is taking)
Which leaves many of us WHERE EXACTLY ?
These so called "MERIT LISTS" - Do not exist

I just called DWP as I received my CRB for 62979 on 25th Nov.

I was told that all my pre-recruitment checks have now been completed and were on the 27th Nov and now I have to wait for a start date and it will either be this month or next month!

I was told by my friend who works as an EO for my local JC that her manager told her all District Managers decide on which JC you will placed at and that he is expecting AO's to start at his JC all December and beginning of January.

Good luck to all and keep us updated!
