an account adjustment is often used for any amounts being manually credited to your account by abbey (including refunds after a fraud claim or card dispute,). if you haven't contacted abbey about anything like this in the past, contact the fraud team on 0845 8506999, at the very least they should be able to investigate what dept put that money in your account.
Thanks I will defo look at contacting the fraud team.
I did coontact the normal telephone banking for the second time to ask them to please investigate the money, they said the money was mine again and they would not be investigating it!!!!!!
Tell ya - So tempting just to say, stick it and blow the lot.................
Thanks again.:rotfl:0 -
My OH had over £5000 paid into his account by mistake by the Halifax - they sorted it out quickly but no one seemed to have noticed and there was certainly no apology. We just went into the branch to tell them. Natman if you are starting to think about how to spend it then don't0

Hi....
Thans for your story. My intentions are not to spend the money but to give it back to abbey to make the error right.
I have phoned up teh telephone banking with no sucess. In addition i went into my local Abbey branch yesterday to try and speak to someone face to face about the money being deposited into my account.
The girl in the abbey said she was not allowed to deal with this sort of enquiry and asked me to ring telephone banking. I range once again the telephone banking service only to be told there is no problem & the money is mine.................
So on one hand i wanna just say fine, and blow he lot on the other hand i just want abbey to take it back, but they wont!!!!!
How frustrating!:rotfl:0 -
I bought £100 of premium bonds for my son and when they arrived it was £1000! Phoned them up and they told me to return them which I did and they sent me the £100 with no 'thanks' or anything. If it happens again, i'll just keep them!0

keep quiet about it, you have done your best to put things right with the abbey.
in the meantime transfer the money into another abbey a/c paying monthly interest.Withdraw the money each month, so that if they do catch up with the error they cannot take the interest back!
when and if they do spot the mistake keep a record of all the time effort and phone calls and costs incurred in taking "all reasonable measures" to advise them of their error.
then you have covered yourself and can reclaim any charges should they debit your a/c suddenly and have recourse for a goodwill gesture for all your valuable time and money that they have wasted!0 -

Yes, I second that. I would also send them a letter by recorded delivery (keeping a copy) explaining exactly what has happened.
The onus is then on Abbey to sort it out. Should there be any queries in the future then you have proof you informed Abbey about it. I wouldn't rely on their call centre to record things correctly.

Don't take it outside of the bank. The risk doing that is they'll debit it back without any word, possibly leaving you overdrawn without authorization, DDs bouncing, etc.
If, for whatever reason, they don't come looking for it in the next six years, it's all yours!
Follow this advice and you will probably end up in court.0 -
