Hi.
I have an Abbey current account, I went online tonight and logged on to my account to find some money in there, which is not mine.
The description of the money is - Account Adjustment, totalling just under £2000.
I am good with money and know that this money is not mine, but wondered what I should do or could do..................................................
I know the money aint mine, but perhaps I could look after it a bit in a high interest account, until they realise.
Anyone had anything similar or have any ideas!!!!
I know I should probably ring them and come clean at the earliest time, but i fancy being a rebel........
hee haa!!!
Any thoughts??

Looking after it in a high interest account is the best course of action. They'll take it at some point though, so don't spend it or withdraw any of it!0
-
what happens say in 6yrs noone claims it, do you just continue to leave it?0
-
You havent had any unjust charges/fees or withdrawels from your account over the past few years have you? I would have guessed it was just a simple mistake but the "account adjustment" status leads me to doubt that somewhat? You havent requested a small loan have you?
Keep us informed.
I have a high interest savings account if you want me to look after it for you in the short term. :handshake:0 -

The money is not yours. What are you after permission to spend it or what.0 -
I'd put it into premium bonds until they ask for it
You can't spend it and it's out of reach there........................and you never know !!!I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I'm not sure but I think that you may be deemed to be concerned in the offence of dishonestly retaining a wrongful credit if you don't inform your bank. Is it worth retaining the two thousand pounds to then get a visit from the boys and girls in blue?0
-
there is only one solution really - call and ask them0
-
I would just fess up, nip it in the bud now and save all the greif and headaches, you know the money is not yours and someone or some bank will miss it and when the trace is complete you need to be able to have it at the ready, I wouldn't even go to the trouble of opening a High interest account...£2k???? Ooh that will make you a great deal of interest...not, £2,000,000 maybe but we are not talking life changing sum's here, go into your bank and tell them the crack, get it sorted out and move on.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

Thanks for the replies so far, glad I got a bit of a debate going -
Put it in premium bonds to being visited from the police, quite a big difference in approaches indeed.
As I said before, I Dont know what the money is -
I have not asked for a small loan or anthing like that, neither have I been charged bank charges in the past for things and this might be a refund( sounds nice though!!! hey)
Like one of the posters above highlighted - the reason for it being in my acount is Account Adjustment - So that in my opinion is ABBEY adjusting my account, rather than an external payment from another source entering my account.
I suppose my Abbey account pays A NICE 8% on sums over £2500, so I may as well keep it there until they would like it back.............. or 2000 lottery tickets - you never know!!!!!
heee heee
Obviously I dont want to be visited by the boys in blue, go to court, lose my job, go to prison, have no friends and been given the death penalty for this and I will give them a ring. If anyone knows how hard work Abbey are on the phone, i deserve the money as they are shocking.................
Any how - i will keep posting!!!:rotfl:0 -
Contact Abbey, ask if they know what's up. If they say they don't know yet, put it in savings - with Abbey.
Don't take it outside of the bank. The risk doing that is they'll debit it back without any word, possibly leaving you overdrawn without authorization, DDs bouncing, etc.
If, for whatever reason, they don't come looking for it in the next six years, it's all yours! What would William Shatner do?0
