Hi Jim
Can't believe I am on this site most days and have only just come across your thread. What a journey. I'm so glad things seem to be looking up for you - save the posts to a memory stick so when you are finally debt free (and I have no doubt you will be one day) you can look back and see just how far you've come. You sound a much stronger person than you did on your first post.
You have inspired loads of us on here, including me. In fact I'm sure I must have bank charges from First Direct too, so that's what I am going to be spending tomorrow doing - getting stuff together and sending the first letter off to them. Did they just tell you how much you had accumulated in charges, or did you work it out from all your past statements?
Thanks for your support !0 -
Morning Jim haven't caught up with you for a couple of days.

What a nice friendly community we seem to have got going here ! Thank you everyone whos left a message recently. It does seem that weight and debt go hand in hand, I can't tell you how much better I feel knowing money sorted and weight going to be sorted. I have dieted before with varying degrees of sucsess, but right now I feel the most positive and equiped to do it well, this is provided not by going to clubs or exercise dvd's but soley by this forum and the words of encouragement from everyone. I feel that I wont be tempted to cheat or give up just because of the support from you all- I hope I feel this way in 6 months time.
So far everything going well- had ahuge portion of brockoli and caluliflower last night, really felt full afterwards and no sugar cravings. Good luck everyone ! Jim x.0 -
Hi,
I have been folowing this thread since my own LBM it has been inspirational and its also taught me alot, we are still waiting for CCCS to call us with our DMP. Looks like we will have quite a few years of strict budgeting. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
The support on this board is amazing, i read it many times a day.
We have our own battles with DCA's but we will win!!!
I agree that money, weight, and lots of other vices go hand in hand, we to have started our own healthy eating plan we want to improve all areas of our life not just the finacial side.
For the most part its shown almost instant results. Eating on such a budget means a lot of planing, no take aways and nutritional meals. My kids are actually better behaved, sleeping better and we have so much more energy.
So here is to a new year, a new start and lots of gorgeous new bodies and even more gorgeous new states of minds in 20090 -

I know that weight and clutter often go together - they are both ways of keeping the world at bay for a lot of us.
I would imagine it's more complicated with debt, which can after all be brought on by things outside our control, but it could be that overspending is also a buffer against life ('I shop therefore I feel I'm acheiving something').
Talking of clutter, I have a lot of tidying up to do today!
Keep up the good work with the healthy eating Jim, I love broccoli ( but I don't know how to spell it) & cauliflower ( you can put the stalks in veg soup too, now where did I hear mention of that?)Miggy

Wow, that's quite an incentive! Or a whole bundle of incentives. If you start a diary thread, I'll be reading it!Miggy

As regards the weight loss, I would advise nipping to your GP and asking them to refer you to a dietitian. You should then be able to attend a weight reduction clinic - just you and the dietitian, I promise you it's nothing like weightwatchers!!
They will look at your diet as it currently is and will be able to advise you of some small changes you can make to help you lose weight. They won't put you on some crazy diet or anything, as they are trained professionals who know what works and what people can stick to. They will also weigh you on each visit, and may measure around your waist, which many people find works as a very good motivational tool.
Best of luck! xx
PS make sure you go to a 'dietitian', not a 'nutritionist'. ANYONE can claim they are a nutritionist, you don't need any qualifications, whereas by law you must have a degree to become a dietitian.0 -
Miggy, you spell broccoli better than me- don't have spell check ay work on this pc !0

Hi I am another lurker on this site for many months but have recently joined the PAD thread and like so many of us feel really supported and inspired by all the good advice and encouragement. I'm really interested to hear about your bank charges, I calimed mine from Lloyds over a year ago and was told it has been put on hold until a final decision as to whether they are lawful or not. that's fine for Lloyds - but I'd like my cash, please!! I know there is a separate thread on this, I'll have a look later.
Well done, Jim, you are taking back control of your life. You are doing so well and being so honest. You are a lovely person and I applaud you!
have a good weekend, everyone - it's FRIDAY!!! YAAAAAAAAAAY!!!0 -
Hi worried jim and everyone  Just checking in to say hope everyone has a fab weekend, I don't get to post too much at weekends as have too many tedious household chores.
I agree there definitely seems to be a connection between weight and debt. I have just changed my signature to reflect both weight loss and debt reduction to keep me motivated on both fronts.
