Had a call from Payplan today to advise me they are sending some paperwork out and will be calling me back 1 week today.
I am going to try to claim back my Bank charges from First Direct, I have no idea how much they will be but over six years I am sure that it will add up. Not sure how to go about it though as I no longer have access to the account through internet banking- do I just write to them and ask them ? Any idea's on what my chances of success may be ? Has anybody else done it ?
Hi again Jim. I claimed my bank charges back from FD,using forms downloaded from this site. It was really easy, they didn't even want the £10 cheque I sent them for the old statements! They coughed up over £700 for me without the slightest protest....go for it I say!!!Debt-free...and staying that way...0 -

Hello everyone !
I have just sent off my letter to First Direct to ask for a breakdown of charges over the last 6 years.(thanks Ras). Still feling pretty up beat, although not everything is finalasied yet- that happens on Tuesday. After I finishing my second job last night I went to meet some friends in a pub- they were so pleased to see me (since May) I didn't have to buy a drink all night! And there may be another interest rate cut to 4.44 svr with the abbey, although this is unconfirmed ar present. If this were to happen I could clear off my o/d with smile and make in roads into the £900 cc with nationwide.0 -
It's great to hear an update - you'll be knocking spots off the debt in no time.
Good Luck with it all (though I don't think you'll need it)

I am finding really frustrating waiting for 10am Tuesday. I want to get things sorted out, I know after a year of doing nothing a few more days wont hurt. Strangely I've had no phone calls for a week or letters.
I love the fact that people are still finding this thread and adding their own comments of support and anybody reading this will have seen the emotional and financial roller-coaster I have been , just in the last 2 weeks when I first started. As I said above I went to the pub on Friday for the first time in a while, this is not just because of lack of funds but also working 2 jobs limits my options and energy, and I was invited to help celebrate a dear friends birthday last night ( I know going out 2 nights on the trot), whilst walking home this morning (4am) it was below 0c , not a cloud in the sky all the stars were out and everything was covered in ice and sparkling in the moonlight, as I gazed up I thought to myself that just maybe everything will be all right.0 -
Well i've had my last interview with payplan and I make my first payment of £100.50 on December 22nd. I have returned all my paperwork to payplan and within 1 minute of putting the phone down I set up my standing order to them. I've cancelled my existing dd's to mbna and I also called first direct to ask them for the balance. Not heard anything back from First Direct regarding the bank charges but only sent the letter a week ago.
I guess this is the end of phase one of my debt free journey, by mid January creditors should have started to recieve payments etc and phase 2 commences, this all seems a bit straight forward at the moment and I must say that payplan have been brilliant, kept everything real simple and took the worry away. I am a fan.0 -
