Clarks Shoes are passing it on. The ticket on the shoe is unchanged, but the till comes up with the price reduced by 2.13%.

A local hardware store is giving a discount of 2.5% at the till, shown as such. More than they need.

    Is this on children's shoes?
Surely there is no VAT on children's shoes.
But I've also heard Russell and Bromley are giving the discount on children's shoes, too.
  • Today i have been to both PC World and Curry's to check out the prices of their digital cameras. I took with me printouts of a couple of price comparisons i had ready, both from before the tax reduction and after.

Curry's prices were the same as the comparisons i had so did show the tax difference.
PC World did not show the difference. I asked an assistant about the price and the tax decrease. This is how the conversation went.

He told me first that the tax decrease was going to end on Dec 31st, (new to me) then told me that their till systems had been adjusted and the decrease would show at the till. I asked him to check the current price for me before i decided whether i wanted to purchase so off he went.
The price showing on a big Point of Sale poster was £79.99, he came back and told me that on their system the price was £89.99 but that as the large point of sale notice stated it had been brought down in price. I shown him the comparison charts i had with me, it clearly showed the price of £79.99 and was dated 21st Nov on one and 2nd Dec on the other. He tried to say that the price must have gone up after i had printed the Nov list, i told him i knew this had not happened as i had been following the prices for a few weeks. I again asked him about the tax decrease and he said it was included in the latest reduction from £89.99 to £79.99. Now is it me or was this just down right naughty
  • Ryman did pass on the cut to the customer, right from day one, they have a large yellow notice above the till points and smaller shelf tickets dotted around the shop, as well as a fair few A4 size notices. The difference is taken off at the till

PC World price match to Currys do they not? (Incidentally, they're also the same company, or at least it's the first time I've seen two companies use the same internal product codes)

I've also been finding that Currys' website has been cheaper than their stores. Now it may have been a Currys.digital shop rather than a main Currys shop, but this week I've found I can get the exact same laptop delivered to me from their website for 25% less than they're selling it in store.

Was a crazy article in MIL's newspaper the other day. How councils weren't passing on the rate cut. Tabloids love council-bashing.
One of the examples they gave was car parks.
Are they really expecting the council to go around changing their car parks from, say, £1 for an hour to 98p for an hour?!?
  • Compaines not passing on the vat cut!!

AOL arnt useless call centre staff dont evben seem to know waht vat is!

Maidenhead Aquatics ( one of largest tropical and marine fish & supplies) suppliers are not. there manager at Wimborne branch tried to tell me that they had paid 17.5% vat on their stock so would contiune to charge same price until this stock had been sold. This is of course crap business dont pay any vat in effect as they reclaim it all,.

Also Wyvale garden centres cant be arsed either!!! hope they go bust!!!
  • the reason tesco and other petrol stns are not passing on the cut is beacuse althoguht vat was reduced he upped the duty on petorl, tobacco and drink so that they would be the only products not reduced. that appears to ahve been the plan anyway b4 the money grabbing big business named here decided to make evn more money out of us!!!!!

Well not necessarily - if they were small enough to fall under the VAT limits then they would have paid at 17.5% with nothing to recover.

Admittedly both sound as though they are large enough not to fall into this category though.....
