  • B&Q are reducing theirs to 15% as from tomorrow.
  • The Labour Party have increased prices when buying merchandise from the
    online Labour Campaign shop.

  • Back to the list... just come back from a quick walk through town and noticed the following retailers passing on the VAT reduction to the customer:

    - Superdrug (on some items)
    - River Island
    - Topshop (instore only, no sign in Topman or Burton though?)
    - Boots
    - Marks & Spencer
    - Currys
    - New Look
    - Argos
    - Austin Reed

Shops with no signs or mention of VAT reduction:
    - Jack Jones
    - Accessorize/Monsoon
    - Primark
    - H&M
    - HMV
    - USC
    - Ryman's
    - Apple Store

Online I've noticed the following with the VAT reduction:
    - Amazon
    - ASOS
    - The Body Shop (online only so far)
    - Lovefilm.com

Commend M&S and Boots - who out of all of them, made it very obvious to customers of the reduction...

House of Fraser: a ceiling light on the website prior to today £475 inc VAT. Today, its price is... £474.66! Matching walls lights prior to today £175 inc VAT. Now on at £171.27. So, just using silly prices across all their products to appear to have passed on deductions?

Burton, had a bunch of things priced up over the weekend and none have altered at all on their website. EDIT: on putting items into the checkout, they are reduced beyond that advertised on the main site so fair play:)
After posting about receiving an email to my MSE username/email from 'Money Expert' (note the use of ' '), I am now unable to post on MSE. Such is life.

Debenhams is not passing on the cut for a week. 'The tills won't do it' according to the staff member. Better buy some new tills!

I would suspect that the items that they are not cutting in price are those which are zero rated or exempt. It seems daft to cut some and not others, otherwise.
  • I have been to Debenhams today and was told by a stroppy assistant that they were not reducing their vat rate until next Wednesday. Is this legal?

Apparently retailers do not HAVE to pass on the lower rate anyway.
The government "hoped" they would but for some shops not passing on the lower rate would mean they do not have to make staff redundant.
