Got to defend the Dyson for my experience....Had it for many years, and as long as you clean the internal filter every 6 months works like new (which is excellent in my opinion). Dyson is well known for problems if used for building dust etc (which I do often), which can cause it to overheat/cut out, but a quick clean of the internal filter, good as knew.

Certainly won't skip it until/if it does completely die.

Have you thought about contacted Dyson.

I haven't read the entire thread now 5 pages but our Dyson 07 animal was overheating. Dyson sent use a new cyclone part within a few days. Today after the week I first contacting them about it they gave me a curtsy call. They are sending me a catalogue of the next Dyson and a free £50 off the next Dyson should I decide to get a new one later.

So pleased others have trouble with Dyson, I've hated mine since day 1, thought it was my failure to understand it! I have an ancient "Basil" - close relative of Henry - used in a busy restaurant daily for years, and still goin g strong over muddy, petpawed floors. The point about the cable length is a really good one - I'v e noticed how often cheaper electrical goods have very short cables, such as kettles, and it's always good to check before you buy anything. Basil will go miles!

I've had endless problems with my DC07 Animal Dyson. When it works it sucks like no other vacuum cleaner I've had. But that's only for one room then it's useless again. I have to clean the internal filter after every room or the suction is so bad it doesn't even have enough airflow to drive the brushbar on the hand tool. And Dysons insistence that it not be used for soot or building dust is ridiculous - it's supposed to clean up dust and dirt. That's what vacuum cleaners are for Dyson.
I've had a replacement 'cyclone unit' from Dyson as they claimed there was a design fault that stopped it from trapping fine particles which went through and clogged up the internal filter. That helped in that I could get a whole room done rather than half a room before needing to clean th filter and wait 12 hours for it to dry.
Plus the hose split after that so I had to replace that.
What use is a vacuum cleaner that doesn't vacuum? For all their ads about endless suction and no bags they forget to mention there are filters that need cleaning/replacing possibly as often as every time you use it.
Dysons are definitely overpriced but when they don't live up to their claims and break with normal use that just makes them a rip-off.
Bought a Vax now and even though it's suction isn't as good as Dyson at its best the Dyson is never at its best.

My 3 year Dyson has just died for the 18th time, it's spent more time at the hoover repair shop than in the house.

Thinking of binning the Dyson and buying a Sebo.

Are Sebo's any good? Which model should be looking at getting? Whats the best price anyone has picked a Sebo up for??

Hi I called Dyson to get my machine fixed, they offered me a fixed price repair including all parts for £55.

When the engineer came out he advised me it was a known fault and there fore Dyson would not charge. He then serviced it and cleaned it and now it looks and works like new.

The also offered me free inspection.

Certainly the best service I have ever had, worth a try throughly recomeded

I've had the Dyson serviced 3 or 4 times, it is just crap. It's time for the bin. I refuse to give Dyson any more money to fix it.

A Sebo is on this months shopping list.

I guess I was just lucky then, coz of my many years owning a Dyson, it has been excellent, would'nt swap it for a booboo or whatever they are called ;-)
