My Dyson has died, should I get a Sebo

Options
My 3 year Dyson has just died for the 18th time, it's spent more time at the hoover repair shop than in the house.

Thinking of binning the Dyson and buying a Sebo.

Are Sebo's any good? Which model should be looking at getting? Whats the best price anyone has picked a Sebo up for??

I have a sebo and it has to be the most efficient vac I have ever used. It is simply fantastic on hard and soft floors. I got the deluxe one because the extra tools are useful. I have had a dyson and still have an oreck but this one is the bees knees. I bought this for downstairs as I live in a 3 storey house. The oreck is in the bedroom area but I always take the sebo up all the stairs as the result is so very good. It is extremely good at cleaning edges and I wouldn`t swap it for any other. Phew fancy me going on so much about a vacuum cleaner
  • I know they look like a toy but i think the Henry is great. They are used by cleaning contractor companies for hours a day and i have seen them for as little as £64.99 + vat. They are so simple yet robust and of commercial quality. The dyson is a great idea, looks space age but will fail!
Another good machine is a Miele. More expensive with a smaller bag but very effective and reliable.
You can get driven beaters on both even though they are cylinder machines!

I thought a Dyson was supposed to have a lifetime guarantee? If it were me I would write to them and complain. You may get something as a jesture of good will.

I clean for a living. I hate Dysons. They are clumsy and unwieldy. Yes they do pick up a lot of dust, but just cos you can see it in the cylinder does not mean they are any better than the cheaper ones. OK if you want to pay a lot for a vac, then in my experience the Miele cat and dog is a dream in hoover heaven.

Henrys are very good all rounders particularly if you get the set of tools for them.

I usually buy cheapie vacs myself, but the £30 one I bought eons ago has outlived one of my clients two dysons, one was an upright, the other the cylinder - both conked out outside their guarantees. I think I hated the cylinder even more than the upright!!! Just my opinion though - I know a lot of people love their Dysons.:)

I have a Sebo XI which is an absolutely excellent cleaner - I've had it for years now, honestly can't remember how many - more than ten - never had a problem with it, and I vacuum every single day. Friends with Mieles also swear by them, but those with Dysons have had lots of trouble - and they are so cumbersome! If I ever need to replace my current machine I would definately go for a Sebo or Miele - well worth the money, especially if you work out cost per use:D

I have a Dyson cylinder and really like it, I've never had it repaired but I have had the Dyson washing machine looked at a couple of time. Any repair (including parts) out of guarantee is £55 for a vacuum and £80 for a washing machine with Dyson.
The last time my washing machine was looked at it had averaged 1 wash a day for the 5 years I have owned it, that is pretty heavy use.
Dyson called me to arrange a free software ugrade out of guarantee and I had to call them when I had trouble with the catch, they were there within a day or so and there was no cost for the repair.
From what others have said I would consider a Sebo or Miele vacuum when mine goes off, but I can't fault Dyson CS.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.
  • I have been throught the vacuum cleaner mill over the years, now I have settled on a Henry for downstairs, it actually lifts carpets with its power and has a long cable, many accesories are available (I have a 5 meter hose on mine - great for stairs) but it is a bit heavy and sometimes has too much suck. Upstairs I have an ancient (but handsome) Nilfisk GS 70 which I got from a carboot with all its bits for £4!!!

Forget all the fancy stuff and go for things that actually work - its worth it in the end.

    Good luck in your search.

Dyson no longer make the washing machines; apparently they cost more to make than they sold them for, or similar.
    Happy chappy
