Great Things You Should Buy Now For Next Christmas Hunt

I only buy things I like and so I dont use them I buy reduced Christmas paper(or Birthday) and wrap them. I make a list so I dont forget what I,ve given people and leave it in the top of the box. I add to it all year till everyone is bought for and then dont have a huge outlay next Christmas and everyone gets better presents than I would have afforded otherwise0

Selfridges in Manchester had decorations and baubles reduced from £20 to between 25p and £1!! Crackers were going for about £3!!! Spent £4 on over £80 worth of decorations! Next in Manchester had loads of lights etc more than half price. I've just bought chocolate pennies from Iceland for 25p a bag - date is December 2007! I got a box of crackers from Tesco for 80p, wrapping paper from Morrisons at 34p a roll, and Christmas cards...I never got round to giving many out this year so will keep them for next!!!! Saves me writing them all again anyway! I did want outdoor Christmas stuff and presies from Argos but everything is sold out at my local and others in the area.Accepted offer on our house - Sept 2006

Ikea have a good range of reduced decorations, wrap and tags. All boxes of decorations are £2 and under, and all individual bits and pieces are mainly under 50p.
They also have cheap generic coloured wrap that can be used throughout the year for under £1.Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -
Ticklemouse wrote:I often hit the sales right at the end, then I can 'mine-sweep' what they have left. I still only buy what I need and like, but if you're not too fussed whether you get anything or not, you can pick up some amazing bargains.
Eg. Boots - their gift packs of make-up, smellies etc are still only 33 or 50% off. Last year I waited and kept an eye on what was happening and picked up £20 pressies for under £5 and gave them to the grannies and aunties from the kids. They went down a storm.
This is what I do too Ticklemouse. This weekend I'm going to write a list of names of who I'll buy for next Christmas. I also put the ages the children will be (I'm a bit dim and forgetful). Then I dont duplicate - I've done this far too many times to mention.
I wont buy anything until the shops are in final clearance phases. Usually another week or 2. And what I dont buy now I'll buy at the end of the summer sales or through the year as I spot a bargain.
If its not 70% off it aint a bargainSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
black-saturn wrote:I would love to do that but the problem I have it storing it all for a year. I have hardly any storage space as it is and it was a real relief to get rid of all that xmas stuff from my house. I think I would go mad having it hanging around for almost a year.
I second that...I daren't buy any wrapping paper as my halls are already lined with stuff I have no storage space left for. And the chances are that come next Christmas, I'll forget that I bought in advance and go out and buy more anyway. :santa2:
Although, I did buy some hand-crafted style cards from Tesco for half the original price and will store them away till next year. The boxes they come in are also hand-craft stylee and will make beautiful chocolate boxes for next year's home-made choccies. I just hope I remember them... :snow_laug:jMacwise"Proper prior planning prevents pathetically poor performance"

I was given £50 of Argos vouchers for Christmas. There is nothing I need at the moment. (Santa was very good to me this year). So I used them to buy next years presents in the half price sale Boxing day. £100 worth of pressies for nothing.
Bargain
(Hope no one that gave me Argos vouchers reads this site)0 -
I have to admit to not being quite as good at shopping for sales goodies as you lot (or even my sister) but I have kept an exercise book going since 1994, where I have two pages per year dedicated to listing all my relatives and what I bought them! My DDs just groan and shake their heads despairingly. I go through the new calendar, writing on birthdays (followed by the new age in brackets). That way, no duplicating presents.
I also buy things like sweets-(or toiletries)-filled money boxes/pencil cases/jewel boxes in the sales, remove the perishables ready for filling with in-date stuff.0 -
The Mickleton Pudding Club recently (See Rick Stein's pre Christmas programme) voted Somerfield's christmas puddings the best, ahead of Tesco, M & S, Sainsbury's etc.
They currently have them reduced to 59p for 907g puds and 29p for 454g puds. The sell by date is March 06, but they'd be fine in the freezer!0 -
Thanks to this very addictive site and the ARGOS board I have finally replaced my very sad and old christmas tree with a 6ft Silver Decorated Fibre Optic Christmas tree (including 30 new silver decorations) all for only £15.00 - saving a whopping £45.00! OH is used to me buying cards and wrappping paper but even he thought I had gone mad when I insisted on getting this tree after xmas!:j Love this site!0
