  • Ashes don't have a sell-by date. Bring the urn home and keep it safe until your fortunes improve sometime in the future, and then take the trip.

i dont know whats worse your friend dying or agreeing to something you know you would never be able to complete, if tehy are a good friend surely thety would rather know the truth than you let them die beiliving you are goin to grant their dying wish

  • This is a hugely unrealistic scenario because I would never operate my finances as a debtor, but for the sake of the question, I would agree to the request because The Grand Canyon is on my list of places to visit. I just wouldn't put a time scale on it.

I had a friend with a similar problem (OK it was South Africa not USA).He did a modest deal with a local padre. Of course there is no evidence that the ashes did not end up being flushed down the loo, but you have to trust someone in life.

As dying is a major industry in USA (and increasingly so over here); I'm sure there must be a local branch of "Funerals R us" that would send back "J pegs" of the ceremony.
  • Nah! They'd never know!
  • A lot of people hide their debts from friends and family, so even if they were a close friend there's no reason they'd necessarily know you were in debt.

I think I'd start a fund and ask their friends and family for donations. Of course you'd have to make it clear that (a) you'd get the cheapest flight possible, and (b) that the trip would be very short and only to do that (you couldn't combine it with a holiday - sorry!)

If they were a good friend, I'd want to do it for them.
  • If I were in this position, I would try to find someone who is hoping to travel to Grand Canyon and ask them to do it (and maybe offer a small financial incentive) or try to contact some ranger/official there and arrange to send the ashes to them (again financial incentive). I would use the internet to research/request. There is no need to do it yourself.

If I had promised a dying wish for a friend I would see it through. Personally I cannot comprehend not carrying out such a promise.

Just scatter them in the wind. Eventually some of the ashes will get there.
