I have been getting the KTC coconut oil from the local health food shop. It doesn't say refined on the jar, so I have been using it to cook with. Shame, I will have to look around for something else.

    Hi Linni,

I'm not too sure on the rules as to what companies have to put on labels but I do know that a lot of them are misleading and words that have no real meaning are often used in order to trick people. I've never seen this one in person but I would think that unless a coconut oil brand specifically states it is unrefined, unbleached, not deoderized, unhydrogenated, cold-pressed etc on it then it probably is refined as if it was unrefined and had been certified as such then I'm sure any company would be rushing to put that in neon lettering on their jars. Trying to work out what is actually in some food items or how they are made these days is the proverbial nightmare!

There are some links to reasonably priced "good" coconut oils earlier in this thread - I'm afraid none of them will be as cheap as the KTC stuff though.

    Regards

    Michelle

Thanks Michelle, I was fooled, because it said 100% pure! I will have to be a bit more careful next time.

    Hi Linni,

It's so easily done! It was that word "pure" that peaked my interest as I think they can get away with a word like that since it is non-specific - it can easily be said that the coconut oil in that jar is 100% "purely" derived from coconuts but the process used to get it from the coconut to the jar is not expanded upon and the word "pure" has other connotations that mean a purchaser can easily be left with the impression that this is an unrefined oil. It seems like companies do not have to tell you if an oil is refined but they will tell you if it's unrefined as obviously it will be more expensive and they will want purchasers to see they are the better option. I think it should work both ways though.

    Regards

    Michelle

  • Wow this thread is getting long, so this stuff MUST be good!

I am still a bit confused as what to buy, has any MSEer out there worked out which supplier gives the overall best value (ie low price on balance with high quality while taking into account the preference for unrefined virgin coconut oil)? No jokes about unrefined virgins!

Also is there a summary about the uses and doses (external and internal)and effect.

    I would be very grateful

This is the company I use: https://www.coconoil.co.uk and they've got an offer on again.
The annual national Organic Fortnight is here again.

Help to celebrate the event and stock up on your favourite Coconoil™ variant at the same time!

There is £1.00 off every 460g tub of COCONOIL™ Organic and also Original Virgin Coconut Oils from now until Sunday 20th September 2009

Just enter OF09 in the voucher code box and update the cart to get the discount. It couldn’t be easier.

For our Irish Republic and other European customers enter OF09 in the voucher code box.

Something went wonky with my online order about half an hour ago, I emailed them and got a telephone call within 10 minutes and the problem is resolved - with customer service like that I'll keep on going back!
  • Yet another postal strike in London, I expect my iHerb parcel is one of the 20 million stashed in a warehouse somewhere :(

Excellent news of Coconoil's service, Gers :)

How long have others' orders with iherb taken to arrive? I had an email on 5th saying it had been posted but it hasn't arrived yet. The UPS tracking number isn't recognised either. As it was economy post from the USA I'll give it a bit longer before contacting them.

    Thanks
