Actually there is still a chance we will get the camera. Most misprices have their orders cancelled within a matter of hours, which Apple have not done. Sometimes companies write off the loss to avoid bad publicity (or even use it to their advantage to create good publicity).harryc wrote:so you dont think there is much chance of getting the camera
I'm still hopeful we will get it, it just annoys me when every time one of these happens you always some people saying "well I'm going to sue them - I am so mad " which is just stupid.
Firstly, provided the company refund the customers, and have sufficiently well written terms and conditions, they will win any court action bought against them. Secondly, we have no moral right to expect a company to make a (possibly huge) loss because of a mistake.0

i always thought it would be too good to be true ...

Well I for one haven't given up hope yet. Until I hear from Apple directly, and whilst my order is still showing as 'not yet shipped', I still have 'hope'.
It's interesting reading this thread and seeing other's thoughts and comments, but I'll wait for direct communication from Apple before I say it was too good to be true. In the past 18 months I've had loads of bargains via this site, which others have said have been too good to be true. Others didn't come off, but I enjoyed trying to 'beat the big corporations etc'

hi im not sure i follow that reasoning .....i knew from these boards that the price was way too cheap ......but if i had stumbled onto the apple site that day i wouldnt have been any the wiser , i would have had to been up on dslr cameras to know that this was the bargain of the year ...but in any case apple took my money in good faith ....
if the shoe was on the other foot and i purchased as i did this christmas an ipod shuffle for my daughter from apple and now discovered i could have gotten it alot cheaper from else where ....would apple now allow me to cancel the order and refund my monies ......i wonder if my argument of sorry my mistake I meant to buy from joebloggs would hold much water
 cheers

But they are two different situations. If you made an honest transaction with the intention of puchasing then of course it is correct that you be expected to complete the transaction. And actually, most companies do allow you to cancel orders provided they have not been shipped.harryc wrote:if the shoe was on the other foot and i purchased as i did this christmas an ipod shuffle for my daughter from apple and now discovered i could have gotten it alot cheaper from else where ....would apple now allow me to cancel the order and refund my monies ......i wonder if my argument of sorry my mistake I meant to buy from joebloggs would hold much water
If your card was misused by someone else, or a computer glitch somehow meant you accidentally ordered 10 ipods then you wouldn't be liable for it. That is a nearer aproximation to this situation.
Last week there was a misprice on laptops (worth £800, selling for £250). Some people may have stumbled across the site and believed it to be an honest price. But the company was clearly small and would have almost certainly have had to go into administration if they had been forced to honour our purchases - would that be fair?0

no it wouldnt be fair, but then common sense has to come into play.
the small company made a mistake, a costly one that it simply coulnt afford to live with .
Is this the same with apple. are we really comparing like for like.0

No but that is like saying a rich person doesn't deserve compensation for an injury.harryc wrote:Is this the same with apple. are we really comparing like for like.
If even only a thousand people bought one of these cameras (which is a conservative estimate), and Apple pays just £400 for the camera trade, that would be a £300,000 loss. You cannot expect a company to make that much of a loss if it is an honest mistake.
The fact that we found out about it from an internet forum and got a purchase in before they noticed does not mean we morally "deserve" to be given a camera for less than it costs Apple to buy.0

Part of their t&c's were that you were a member of an educational institution so think that 90% of the orders made were not purchased by such people.
if i were them, even though it is clearly a price error, i would only ship to those few who are the bill payer AND a student/teacher ie only ship the camera to people who fax/email their id and pay with their own credit card and only ship to their billing address, which will mitigate their losses.
even though they have already charged peoples cards they are well within their rights to put a refund back on if you have breached their t&c's of not being a student.0

At first I thought bargain of the year, but I'm now begining to have my doubts anyway. Yes a tremendous price for such a good camera, but I didn't really anticipate the cost of the extras.
Sure I knew I'd be lucky to get a lens for under £200 but I didn't expect lenses to start from £359 for a fixed lense and if you want a reasonable lens (one with any range) they start from £450 and go up and up and up see http://www.jessops.com/ where the top lens they sell is over £5000.
Not quite the purchase I had in mind when I thought at last a cheap slr to replace my compact. There is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0

yes i totally agree with the fact that they only should consider those who genuinely for the criteria , ie workind in education or a student etc etc ...
the problem with that is that i am sure by now everyone and i mean everyone who has ordered will now know someone who fits that certainly the student criteria.0
