Is there a (cant think of the new pc name for it) special school near you you could volunteer at for a couple of hours a week? Or have you tried googling for hearing impared support groups, or asking your doctor if they know of any in your area? Maybe if you dropped them an email they would be happy to help, I mean if anyone is a bit lonely they might like just having someone to chat to for half an hour twice a week or whathaveyou, or you could go to some of the sessions to get you signing more often if they invite you.

    Some good suggestions there KT!

Thanks, those suggestions are all great. I've tried many of them but not all.

I'd love to volunteer, I've offered myself a few times (that sounded rude) but most places don't like to use Signing volunteers. There is a school for the Deaf near me but to do anything there I'd need to be there during the day and I work from 8-4 about 40miles from home. (I'd sacrafice the job quite happily if it weren't for the bloomin' mortgage!)

I'm not giving up though, I'm hoping to find something in the evenings eventually. wish me luck!

Long shot, can you help teach sign language at an evening class, as a support to the teacher? No idea if your area does evening classes, mine does, but we're hundreds of miles apart.

There are a few evening classes near me. I'd never thought of asking becuase any assistants I've ever seen in Sign Language classes have been Deaf (same with the teachers themselves although I have been informed that there is now one hearing BSL instructor).

I know of at least 3 teachers I could ask (that like me...). It's a long shot but worth enquiring about.

    Thanks!

I have thought about doing that but was worried about potential nutters... I might give that more thought though too. Thanks.

Thank you so much! They might be just the thing. I'm going to email them tomorrow. I usually stear clear of Deaf clubs because it is very akward going in as a hearing person on your own. But they seem to be doing a lot and might have a less akward way I can get involved. I might actually know some of the people there too (It is based only about 10mins from where I live)

I had written Deaf clubs off, but I think if I really want to do this I can't write anything off any more.

I'm not sure how they are on hearing folks going - I know someone I went to school with used to go to one in our area as her sis was deaf and they were trying to help the family learn to sign so not all totally exclusive. Worth a try though!
