  • I have been reading an article about using washing soda crystals in a washing machine, in place of the usual powders/tablets.

Article in this months Home Farmer mag if anyone is interested. Ther are some really interesting articles in this little magazine.

The article says to use about 2 dessetspoons in a 400c wash -- think this should be 40c!!!

My washing machine only works on 30c now, sticks on everything else. Think it must have decided it is an "eco machine" :D

Has anyone tried this? What temp, how much and for coloureds as well as whites?

Were you happy with the result? Did you add anything else for softening/smell?

Sounds too good to be true if it works. It would save a fortune.
Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend
  • Yes I use soda crystals in every wash. I have saved pounds over the years and apparently it does your machine good too by keeping it clean. I use crystals for every temp I use, from the hottest to the coolest (except for my undies which I ony use a small amount of detergent for anyway).

  • i also use soda crystals in my washing machine, along with my soapnuts and some essential oils to give them a nice scent. :D

  • I didn't know that I could use soda crystals for washing clothes, I knew I could run them through the washing machine for cleaning it.

  • I use a mixture of 1 washing tablet (instead of the suggested 2) and soda crystals.

    Hi muppet,

I use 50/50 soda crystals and washing powder and think the results are better than washing powder alone. There's an existing thread on this that may help so I've added your thread to it so that you can read other old stylers opinions.
