I've used about two thirds Tesco Value to one third soda and the results are excellent.
I use liquid for 30 degree washes, used to get powder streaks - I think I'll try somew soda with it. At the moment I'm using half super concentrated got on offer with Tesco value bio liquid.
Just a question - I've seen soap for rubbing on stains before washing - has anyone used this? Also, what is vanish made of, does anyone know if it contains soda?
I'm searching for bulk washing soda - little success - but I've discovered the chemical name which is washing soda is sodium carbonate. I'm going to search for this.0 -
I've been using Morrison's Household Soap, I can't remember the price exactly but you get 2 bars in a box for less than £1 (I think it's about 60p but don't quote me on it lol). It lasts for ages. It works as well as Vanish - I've still got a bar of it, can you even buy the bars anymore? - I have no idea what the active ingredients are of either one, sorryI am a coffee bean0

I'm hoping someone can advise.
On the packet of Soda Crystals it says you can use it for softening water and stain removal in your wash.
Does anyone use soda crystals in your wash - does it work??
If it softens the water, does this mean it keeps down limescale??
I have used a hot solution of soda crystals for getting grease off kitchen cupboard doors and to clean my patio and it was very good, but if I can get some reassurance I think I'll start to use it in the wash too.
Thanks
Liz

I use soda crystals in the drawer with washing powder(mr s basics) and get great results. I never measure it out but think its about 2 tablespoons to a scoop of washing powder. Or some people put it straight in the drum! We have quite soft water so not sure about the other issues regarding limescale etc...
I am sure someone else will be able to help you there!JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

Hi Lizzybop,
I use half soda crystals and half washing powder and the clothes come out just as clean as when I used all washing powder.
There's an earlier thread that will help answer your questions so I'll add your post to it to keep the replies together.

Thanks Pink,
it's not the first time you've found an old thread in response to one of my questions. You've been so helpful.
I guess nothing much is ever new - and someone has always asked the same question before.
I'll get out and buy some more soda crystals asap!

Yep, I use about half the recommended amount of washing powder and about a scoop of soda crystals in the powder compartment (sometimes less or more, depending on the size of the load). I don't mix them, just put one on top of the other. They mix together during the wash cycle anyway.
It works great, makes clothes really clean, bright and lovely and is more ecological. I aslo think that it helps keeping washing machine cleaner and smell free, don't know for sure, but that's what it seems to me.0 -
Failed two weeks running to find any Soda Crystals in Asda. Even had young man trying to find them and calling his (useless) manager for advice. Anyone seen them somewhere?0
