That review had the camera price at $499. Can you buy a camera of similar specification and build quality for £90?0

Do you think writing to them, rather than telephoning would be a more effective option? You can address the letter directly to the chief and not have to deal with the foot soldiers, which is who you'll get when you ring.0

My 5600 has just arrived today, which is quite surprising what with it being Saturday.
Anyway, I have to say it's a great little camera. What I wanted was a small and light point and click for the wife and this ticks all of the right boxes. It's very simple to use and has lots of nice features. The look and feel of it feels very good quality.
I have tested it for lag in flash mode and have to say that although there is a slight delay for it to refresh to shoot mode, it's not an alarming delay and is a matter of seconds.
I'm sure there are better cameras around like the Canon Ixus, but they're twice the price and as this does every thing we need...that's simply unnecessary.
Boots are currently selling the 5600 for £199 without the SD card!0 -
Sorry to anyone waiting for the name of the person who we spoke to, my mum can't really remember, all she can suggest is to be persistant and point out the extra costs that you've incured, time and money.
As for the camera I've ordered this Fujitsu AA NiMH Battery Charger + 4 AA 2200 mAH NiMH rechargeable batteries form ebay to save on battery costs. The batterys are high performance and don't suffer with charge memory. It arrived today and seems to be a great little product if anyones interested.0 -
After the diasppointment of my 5200 order cancellation, I went for the Nikon Coolpix 5600 plus SD card. Apple offered a £35 discount (after offering £20 at first), and said this was as far as they could go.
So with my Egg Money card cash back (6%), and allowing £10 value for the 256Mb SD card, the 5600 cost me £97.16 (£149 - £35 - 6% -£10). So in the end, i got the 5600 for £7.21 more than the original £89.95 cost of the 5200.
I am reasonably happy with this eventual outcome.People are more important than things0 -

Hi... Could you please tell me who you spoke to in order to arrange the discount, as I might have a go at this... I'm somewhat annoyed by the cancellation of my 5200 order.
Also, how did you arrange the Egg Card cashback? This is how I'll be paying so it will be quite useful...
Thanks for any advice!0 -
I spoke to Sean (extension 12007) - he was helpful. I explained that :-
a) I was disappointed to have had my order cancelled by Apple after they had confirmed it, and
b) I had ordered a case and an SD card for the 5200 after order confirmation and before cancellation by Apple, and now was left with a case and card, but no camera.
I said I accepted that there was no stock of the 5200, but asked if Apple could supply me with a 5600 at a discount. Initially, a £20 discount was offered, but I said that was not really enough - after all, the 5200 was only £89.95, and I did not want to pay much more than that. After a little more discussion, and a couple of pauses while a "supervisor was consulted", a £35 discount was offered. I got the impression that this was as far as Apple were prepared to go, but I may just be a poor negotiator!
After agreeing the £35 discount, Sean put me through to telephone sales, who processed my order at the full price of £149. I said I had an Egg Money card. The sales person said they could ensure the Egg discount was applied by processing my order through a special Egg link on their ordering screen.
After completing the telephone sale, I was put back to Sean, who then "refunded" my Egg Card with £35. The tele sales person could not do this - it had to be a customer support person.
I have checked my Egg Money card online, but nothing has appeared yet, so unfortunately I can't yet confirm the £35 discount and the 6% cashback was applied to my order.People are more important than things0 -
LOl, lol, lol! After my first 5200 was cancelled, I ordered a second one by phone, as it was still listed on their website - as we know, despite asking for assurances, the second one was later cancelled. I have since got the 5600+card - but would you believe that Apple have mailed me and asked me to complete a satisfaction survey about my shopping experience!! I've done it, maybe some others of you might want to do the same :rotfl:

Thanks for that, but we're all only too aware now that we can get £35 off a 5600. I've had the same discount too, as well as several others posting on here.
What's more interesting is how have some people managed to get a 5600 price matched to a 5200 and who have they spoken to at Apple to get it?0 -
I hope everyone that has went for the 5600 camera is aware it is a cheaper downgrade to the 5200.
On Nikon website the 5200 is RRP £249 where the 5600 is £199.0
